Last Film You Saw

F1 seemed a bit of a music video at times, the age old tale of young upstart and old man/teacher, I’m not an F1 fan at all but it looked and sounded superb. Trying to hard to be similar to Topgun in a way and that had already been done by Days of Thunder, but it was produced by Bruckenheimer so no shocks there, 7/10.

The Phoenician Scheme - those who are team Wes Anderson will try to rank it by its quirkiness percentage, the rest will just hate it!
Definitely better than Asteroid City, but The Grand Budapest Hotel was the peak.
Didn't like the Phoenician Scheme. I thought the story was kind of weak and it wasn't sure what it was trying to do. I did like Asteroid City though so maybe it's me

We watched Train Dreams - which looks beautiful, but is a bit dull. Follows the life of a decent man working as logger in Montana in early 2Oth Century through to old age. Captures changes over time and his personal struggles and challenges very well. The film is slow and measured. Anyone who liked “A river runs through it” from the nineties will enjoy this.
But not really my cup of tea. 5/10

Am finally getting round to watching some Classic Films, I missed when they were released.
Bought "Chinatown" on DVD, from 1974.
Jack Nicholson is superb, Faye Dunaway smoulders.
Thought the ending was a bit cliched, but won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.
7/10...

8.5/10 for me……

Watched home alone 2 with the youngest last night, she was laughing her head off.
Come down stairs this morning at 6.30 and she was already downstairs watching it again.
Just home from work and yeah it's on again.
Watched it last week. The bit on the stairs where they pretend to get hit cracks me up every time.

Captain Phillips. Thought it was a great film and the best I have seen in a long time. Music provided a lot of suspense. The film was extremely well paced. Very little unnecessary/story telling scenes.

It is free to watch on Amazon Prime at the moment and I recommend it as a watch for anyone who has not seen it before.

As someone who rarely watches films I just watched I Swear, a biopic about the lad who did the first documentary on national TV about Tourettes Syndrome. As the son of a Glaswegian I fucking love swearing but aside from a brilliant portrait by the lead actor this film has such a warmth and empathy

3rd knives out film, enjoyed it.

1. Knives out 9/10
2. Knives out: Green onion 5/10
3. Knives out: Wake up dead man 7/10
We just watched it too.

I thought it was better than the first one — a fair degree better, and I liked the first one. But 1) I’m an ex-Catholic, 2) I struggled more to solve it (I guessed parts but missed some things that seem more obvious in retrospect) and 3) Mila Kunis is in it. Josh O’Connor is superb.

Definitely better than Glass Onion (Green Onion would be a better name!)

Wake Up Dead Man — 9/10. Great stuff!

1 Good bad and ugly
2 Once upon a Time in the West
3 Few dollars more
4 Fist full of dollars.

Not much between them, there all great.
I like Fistful better than Few but I think it’s because so many scenes in it are so iconic. Especially “My mistake. Four coffins.”

I also think of OUATITW as not at all part of the group. But it has far and away the best opening scene and one of my favo(u)rite opening scenes of all time.

Good Bad Ugly is still my favo(u)rite of all of them because Eli Wallach’s Tuco is my favo(u)rite performance by any actor in any film.

I'm a big Wes Anderson fan, Grand Budapest and Moonrise Kingdom are the best, last 2 or 3 (The French one and Asteroid City) have definite hints of him crawling up his own arse. The photography in his middle era for want of a better term is stunning
I liked Asteroid City but I’ve found all of his films a bit up his own arse. Rushmore is my sister-in-law’s favo(u)rite film of all time but for whatever reason while I like it it’s just not a film I want to watch over and over like some other people do. I like Moonrise Kingdom best of them as well.

The last half hour or so is excellent, with the (I'm presuming) Navy SEALs unit preparing to free the captain from his captivity. "Execute"!

Watched the F1 film which I thought was quite good. Very predictable but a decent watch.

Watched Family Plan and Family Plan 2 with the...family and very enjoyable. Standard mix of ridiculous plot, some comedic moments and some good action. Very much a film for this time of year where you don't have to commit much brain power to it!

For me The Royal Tenenbaums is head and shoulders above anything else.

Then The Life Aquatic. Love it.

Then Rushmore & Moonrise Kingdom equally great.

Then Fantastic Mr Fox &The Grand Budapest Hotel. Enjoyable.

(I've not seen Asteroid City or The Phoenician Scheme)
