Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Haaland has been playing a lot of minutes. A lot. It will take one several week injury for people to appreciate marmoush. Just like last year. And we don’t really have actual depth in that position. We have players that can play there but aren’t natural strikers.

I hope Haaland doesn’t get injured. But the reality is he needs some rest and injury can happen. To write off marmoush this early is a bit crazy.

Marmoush came in and played great when Haaland was out late last year. We didn’t miss a beat and arguably played the best football of the season when he was playing.

I would agree but he's the only right back thats been reliably linked and continously linked to us he's also stalling on a new Newcastle contract when after the summer window the contract was all but done, I think we've been in his ear.

Outside shout for right back , the chelsea youngster is looking to leave chelsea Josh Acheampong we've been linked before.
Can also play LB

Then you know fuck all about football.
Oh right?
I never said I did. You know what though pal? I don’t see you making a lucid point here, other than just being rude. I have an opinion, I’m not being offensive.
Are you so lonely that you need to try to pick a fight to get some interaction?
Act your age Alan.

Pep will never play that attacking though.

Would be back to the Sane and Sterling days if so though.
He played David Silva and KdB together with three in front. That line up scraped it's way to the 100 point safety mark as well.

It would be risky against the top teams but would certainly give options to open up those sitting deep as well as a lot of pace on the break

Semenyo is a good player and having a fantastic season, no doubt. But don't like this transfer for us.

I assume he would join as a rotation player for this season with a view to pushing into the first team next year. But what signal does this send to Doku who's in the form of his life and only just now has made the position his own?

This signing would have made more sense had we sold Savinho for £65m in August to Tottenham like we should have. Right now, it risks squad harmony to add further depth in a position where there's a lot of it elsewhere

Demoralising for Doku, pushes out Marmoush, adds complications for Foden & Cherki, further reduces Savinho's gametime and Bobb's opportunities without improving our best XI
Andy Grinchcliffe likes this post.

Stats wise , we now have the best striker in the league , the best creator in the league and now the best winger in the league.

No other winger has more goals than Semenyo this season.
Is he definitely coming then, I really hope he is btw

It’s like you just want 11 players with no no one putting pressure on them! Daft take and end up with the team not competing for titles! Go look at our bench when we won the treble!

Kovacic has been good, Trafford has been good for a 2nd choice, it’s RAN’s first season, Nunes has been brilliant at RB, Grealish was a treble winner. So essentially we’re looking at Philips and pre Pep signings, not bad.
Kovacic has not been ‘good’.

Nunes was signed as a central midfield replacement for Gundogan

Grealish was for £100m underwhelming - about a 1/2 good season. We cant take the piss out of United for Pogba and then give ourzelves a pass for Grealish

This lacks logic
The reality is that we need Associatoin trained players to complete our squad unless we can train them all ourselves we need to go elsewhere to get them and the topPL teams are unlikely to sell.

Out of your list Trafford and Ait Nouri are far to recent to draw any conclusions from kovacic has been injury prone but decent and actually came from an upper PL team many of your other examples are ancient history and no more representative than say
Stones Barry Lescott and Milner all of whom have been part of important title winning teams for us.

Looking at other teams Liverpool won the PL twice and the CL with the likes of Robertson Henderson Mane and MacAllister in their sqaud .
Arsenal are currently ahead with Rice touted as the best player in the PL and Eze, Trossard and Raya all playing important roles.

The provenance of a player is less important than how well he is scouted . At one time our successive Brazilian signings were the likes of Jo Robinho Sylvinho Maicon and Fernando. Did this mean we should have avoided Fernandinho and Ederson?

I do think scouting is particularly important for PL players as they tend to attract premium fees and are difficult to off load if unsuccessful but to avoid them altogether is neither practical or logical.
Those you mentioned as counter example getting on for 10-15 years ago

i’m specifically talking about overpriced overhyped premier league players - and Semenyo appears to follow that mould as do players like Wharton and Anderson

Kovacic has been good for us. He was signed to be a squad rotation player and has delivered. Kovacic wasn’t our Marquee midfield signing but he’s scored important goals and played whilst slightly injured to get us into top four.

We signed Silva as a RW initially and he was mid there bar a few goals, he moved into midfield and became world class, we can apply that to Nunes who has become good at RB.

I don’t think Pogba is piss take worthy tbh. He did what he needed to do and won a Europa with United. Maguire and Antony are more worthy of that.
Grealish was underwhelming but he was usable for a season and we won the Treble in that season, not fair to say he flopped.

They may be overpriced and overhyped but there’s still good ability there.
