I was going to write something about how we're then overstocked in attack. But as I wrote it down, I realised we're not particularly. One has to go, I imagine Bobb as he needs to kick on, be it loan or permanent, but even then counting Reindjers as a forward it's still two per forward position. It's not practical to expect a core of 12-13 players to start almost every game, Semenyo likely strengthens us with his abilities and allows rest for others. I imagine the combined fees for Grealish and Bobb will be nearly covering this fee too.
It does block the path for the youngsters slightly, but if we believe Semenyo can be top quality then that overrules it, plus we can still send out a few of the younger lads for a season somewhere and boost their value, and then whoever doesn't kick on within the first team is most at risk from any returning young star.
Defence remains a concern for me, but we can probably afford to wait for summer unless Ake pushes hard to go. We only have one left footed centre back in the first team should Ake go, and if we rolled up with both Semenyo and Guehi in January I would be delighted. Plus, I think the M62 would overtake the A555 airport relief road as the most flooded road in the North West.

Nunes is not a CB of any sort - I think he's a CM converted successfully to RB or RWB. That's in contrast to Khusanov - who is a CB (aerial ability is crucial for that position) currently being converted to RB/RWB rather less successfully.In our back 4, O Reilly usually goes up letting Nunes be the RCB in a sorta back 3.
Nunes still has flexibility to make overlapping or underlapping runs, but is usually more reserved in those to make sure he is defensive minded first than O Reilly.

Whether you rate him or not, it’s not the point.
We took a player under the noses of cartel teams that probably needed him more than we did….and the player himself, faced with several suitors, emphatically chose us.
Now if you can’t get behind the signing under those circumstances…you’re not blue imo.
