Moving to Northumberland

camped in Wooler a few times. Nice little town on the edge of the national park. Although it has a campsite and part of st Cuthberts way it wasn't has touristy as Alnwick, bamburgh castle and Berwick upon tweed. All of which are about half an hours drive away

Yes we have not ruled out Wooler yet. It hits a few of our criteria’s, walks straight from the door, 30 minutes to beach and there is a small community running club. We’ve not actually visited yet so hopefully we will get there this weekend.

Lovely place , great pub too . We usually holiday in Beadnell but most properties seem to be holiday lets

Apparently Beadnell is considering banning dogs from the beach during the summer months, which would effect our interest in moving there.

With you going up next week for a few days, Frank, you should see Manchester on the Friday and make a day of it on your way.
You don’t want to spend all 3 days in Northumberland if you’ll be there forever soon.

Can’t beat good Manc.

Would absolutely love to but got Mon/Tuesday off so it will be the 5am drive on Saturday morning.

Good luck hope it goes well. If you're taking the dogs from what I remember we ate in a couple of places on the high street and they were dog friendly. Not many practical shops again from memory they had a decent butchers a deli and a small coop we had to drive to the sainsburys in Alnwick for a big supermarket.

Cheers for the info. Sadly my dog is not always ‘dog friendly’ so hopefully they will do takeaway. A rescue, so his first instinct is to be fearful.

Yes we want to be somewhere rural, but with access to a town like Alnwick for shopping etc. Wooler, Rothbury are high on our list.

After 10 years living down South I applied, and was offered a job in Northumberland.

Me and missus decided we wanted a quieter way of life, more rural with hopefully access to beaches, hills and good dog walks. We are really happy where we live so it’s a very difficult decision, to uproot, based on a few enjoyable holidays.

We’ve read up a bit on the area and the area around Alnwick seems to meet our criteria.

Any blues live up there, lived there, know the area well and maybe recommend areas/villages to live, the reality of cold winters and any other pros/cons an outsider might not have considered.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It’s a stunning part of the world… My only tip as a frequent visitor is to try Spike Milligan’s favourite breakfast in “Barter Books” in Alnwick

Sensational

Only been in the shop, not made the cafe as yet. But an incredible place. A real gem of a bookstore.

Not the best time to be buying shares but I’ve applied for a smallish investment in Develop North PLC, there’s an IPO at the moment but I think it goes live on the 31st March. I’ve done mine through AJ Bell, it’s a North East company looking to expand by raising funds, the area has vast potential, the number of Southerners buying up properties in that part of the world is growing.

Develop North are looking to expand their portfolio in the area, if you do move and immerse yourself in the area a little tickle in the company might just give you a few bob in return.

Also enroll in a language course at a local college so you can really integrate with the locals and show them you’re making an effort.
