10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

15 year olds think the game henges on goals and assists. The mature view is that it takes teamwork to win titles. All of my criticism here is based on his ability to play with the team. “He’s a maverick” is a nice way of saying he’s not a team player and doesn’t listen to the manager.

I’ve said my piece. Time will tell. And I do hope he comes good and settles in.
He spent large parts of the season on the bench and didn't kick off, didn't moan or whinge just got his head down and looked to adapt to how Pep wanted us to play. He was then instrumental in us hitting form, reeling Arsenal in and finally looking more balanced. That long break before the Everton game, after the FA Cup semi final saw a lot of our players lose form sadly - Cherki being one of them. I don't think he looked the same after that break.

He's still young with plenty of room for improvement but to highlight one missed pass and suggest that means he's not a team player is ridiculous. He got 12 assists this season...that suggests he's looking to find a team mate when he can.

This might be a minority opinion but I'm not sure he adapted well to the PL at all.

There were moments of brilliance at times but on the whole rather not assertive/ dominant enough in our midfield. That might be okay as a winger but as a midfielder it becomes really noticeable.

Hopefully able to fix that so that defensively he's more of a force in winning the ball back.

He was also injured for a good spell early on

If his attacks come to nothing is it worth the dazzling footwork?
Are you on the correct thread, you jealous rag*?

*Edit: just looked at some of your posts - you're possibly not a rag, just a bitter Savinho fan envious of Cherki's support on here :-)

Looks like a very talented player to me, the kind of player that gets bums on seats & out of them if you know what I mean. He will only improve with experience & regular appearances

Very harsh analysis. This was his first season in the PL and on the whole I and many others found him lovely to watch. I think this lad is going to get better and better

In his 1st season in the league at 22 he became the leagues best creator in open play.

If that's not adapting to the league then im gonna need a definition on what that even means.

End of this season gave a perfect example. He was in the box, back to goal with every defender on him. Haaland was unmarked on his left waiting for the ball. Cherki never looked up or even attempted to pass the ball. Haaland was so frustrated. Haaland was unmarked in the box ffs because the defenders knew to focus on Cherki.

Now ask yourself if it’s worth it. If Haaland doesn’t want to play with him and decides to leave, is it worth clapping for the dancing monkey? If his attacks come to nothing is it worth the dazzling footwork?
