Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Is he TOP?

Jury is out, he's had a couple of good seasons.

He may well be but many players have had an outstanding season or two in an average team and never ended up what people thought.

That's the gamble I suppose.

I know what you’re saying. But Nico Gonzalez and Kalvin Phillips were absolutely dross on the ball / technically when we signed them and it was obvious but we still bought them anyway for 40/50m each. Time we bought a guarantee for that position and Anderson is as close to it as we can get out of available players imo.

Anderson covers the pitch with ease, grafts hard, recovers the ball & wins duels and has got every kind of pass a number 8 needs in his locker. The only question is whether he will go on to be at the level of say a Joao Neves / Vitinha in the champions league and you’ll never know that with any player in that position until they make that step up. But he’s already a much better footballer than Declan Rice, for example.

Better than good he’s had two absolutely brilliant seasons and he’s only 23, got a big future ahead of him. Looks an excellent addition if we can get him

Football is weird at the moment and the fees are some of the stupidest extortion schemes it seems like. At the Spurs forum they are resigned at the fact we will get Anderson so they are looking at Wharton and they have been quoted 100 million. Tonali going price is 100 million. Baleba's going price last year was 100 million.

I would say lets buy from Europe but then we got Reijnders and Nico G for some 100 million and they can't compete at the highest level as well. What is one suppose to do if the top scouts in the world cant find a singular world class player at the peak at its powers for 100 million or a decent one at 60.

Anderson looks like the closest to a successful transfer and fills the gaps that we desperately need filling.Hence I am okay with 120 million or Whatever.

The strikers market last season gave me some great nightmares. How do you spend north of 70-80 pounds on strikers and all you get is Sesko, Gykores and Woltemade. I mean Ekitete is decent and he costed close to 90 million.
What can you even do!

You can buy off City for 25-35 mil or maybe players like Palmer for 42 mil!

We’ve asked about Gibbs White because Newcastle want 100 million for Tonali and Palace want a similar fee to what Anderson will be going for, for Wharton.

I think that’s mental
Wonder if Gibbs-White has a similar clause in his contract to last summer. If he's available for around the £60-70m mark and we can flip Reijnders, I'd be tempted.

Flip side to that is we passed up going for João Neves who only cost £50mil.

Granted though it’s so much harder to know with foreigners how they will cope with the transition to the Prem, and that’s why I’m all in for getting Anderson, even if it is £100mil.

As you say Reijnders is a classic example of someone who looked a star in Italy yet was garbage and we might even unload.
