We did something very similar and stayed five mins for the Eiffel tower. We walked everywhere only using the Metro to and from the Gare du Nord. Some great restaurants near by at very reasonable prices, we even ate at one on the Champs Elysees which was a stones throw from the Arc de Triomphe at a discounted rate.
