How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Is this only a post brexit issue then?

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

it's the sense of national identification that patriotism brings which doesn't align with being dictated to by the EU on law. I don't mind it to be honest.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

We have left because of the restrictions imposed, I don't know a brexiteer who doesn't want to trade with Europe at all.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

I guess what rankles for them was having the UK supreme court as the final vote on the application of UK law, arranging trade with other (in particular commonwealth countries), stopping EU criminals from entering the UK under free movement, ending gross EU contributions, concerns over Turkey...

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

I think everyone is happy with access to the single market. It's what we have to give up to get that access that will cause a problem. Perhaps after enough thinking (and the older generations like my parents who feel betrayed by the 70's vote) not being around, we will come back to it as a...

    What is a good salary?

Simply the average cost of a home in the UK is not relevant to a sole salary though is it. If car insurance is too expensive, cycle to work (as I did for first year of a new job, until I could afford a moped). You're taking average costs to over-inflate the situation, but it's just not a...

Trident is 3bn per year. It also provides jobs and country security. I agree we could scrap it, but it won't even tickle the sides of the problem. https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-8166/CBP-8166.pdf HS2 is a waste, but most of it is already sunk. Scrapping it doesn't...

    Birmingham bankrupt

The main road leading to the estate is waiting to be surfaced by the council. The builders have been excellent, providing nice walking paths around the estate, upfront donations to the council for local park improvements as part of the permission to build here. Birmingham spent millions on a...

    Birmingham bankrupt

Interested in your thoughts on what we change (either increase tax / or cut other areas) to make this work as a country and allow that funding? £110bn this year is paying of debt because we didn't manage effectively in prior years. That could be going to councils, paying for NHS pay increases etc.

How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Hard to see any upside with this government on Brexit. There's no doubt we will change at the next GE and hopefully build back from there.

It's not in doubt that they are being squeezed, but if there's not the income (for either brexit, mismanagement by this idiotic government, covid, wasteful barges, rampant inflation) then there's no option. We need to rationalise spend as a country until we're in a position to increase it.

And this is only being realised now? Why didn't they make drastic changes? If I lost 40% of my income, i'd downsize my house, stop all luxuries and look at all options to grow my income back to where it was.

So they've grown income and cut ineffective/waste? And yet still have not enough to deliver basic services? It's just not possible they can have such income and not provide adequate services. They have failed as a local council and should step down. Should the government continue to provide...

Well they can do 2 things. 1 - Find efficiencies, operate effectively, challenge all areas of spend, cut waste. 2 - increase income by building more houses and attracting more businesses to the area with rate cuts. I live on a new housing estate with almost 500 houses. That's £1m a year in...

Can you imagine if they were not.. rewarding themselves with unlimited payrises each year. They claim the maximum they can with a cap, without it we would see 10%+ each year.

    What is a good salary?

A lot of previously comfortable people are now feeling the pinch of inflation. A sharing pizza at Pizza Hut is now £26! It's affecting those small bits of enjoyment people could enjoy. We have to really cut down on those days out.

    What is a good salary?

Why would a single person want a £270k house? Nice worse case scenario there. Realistically those figures should be: Rent £600 pcm, council tax (band c/d - £150, utilities £100, insurance £30 (small car - 1 driver), food around £150, petrol or transport £100. So that's around £1k without...
