The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I'm amazed I've never heard of him or this album as it should be one that would've come across in that late 90s era. The only thing I can think of was that I was probably more into Beck, Air and the like than this. Either way, I had not idea on what to expect. I sometimes like to listen to the...

Sparta Praha CL GW3 (H) | Man of the Match

Savinho was absolutely brilliant but went for Nunes as I thought he had a really good game tonight. I think he created 2 and finished the penalty. I just wish he could do this against maybe even Southampton and Forest.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - Rock & Roll (pg 47)

I'm happy to have a crack at 1970 Rob if no one else fancies it. Give me some notice in case work flares up but should be able to work with pretty much any year from 1966 onwards. Should be a fascinating thread - thanks for running these, they always throw up plenty of interesting music and...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Thanks everyone for listening to I Should Coco - I've not had time to read all the messages with f**kin work! I've never heard of this album and it's scheduled to be listened to on Friday! I do like listening to an album where I have no real idea of what it will sound like!

    Thomas Tuchel | England Manager

Other than Sir Alf no one else has come close to Southgates record. He also got the squad in order and got the players wanting to play for him. England have underperformed MANY times under all managers when up against some of the best, it's not exclusive to Southgate.

    Thomas Tuchel | England Manager

Totally agree as usual mate. You can't please some people. We had an Englishman in Southgate who I think did an excellent job, but because he didn't win every game he managed 12-0 he was useless. We couldn't find an Englishman to manage England with a decent record and who was available...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Well this nomination has come at a time when I've got full on Covid. I've been feeling very under the weather from it and whilst I'm over the worse of it, Covid will always remind me of a particular album - and what a belter it is! It was released in 1995 and despite being up against Oasis'...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

By tights this should be right up my street but I just can't get into The Chameleons. I find the production a bit dated really and it feels like I've heard all the songs before but by other people. In fairness, I can imagine a lot of people have been inspired by them but it does sound dated to...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

It's a good point about some of the grime artists and while I like some of it, I can't listen to say an album of it just as I can't generally listen to a full rap album.

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Very much musical. I just wonder if there is anyone who is making the equivalent of a The Times they are a changing, Big Yellow Taxi, Mercy Mercy Me, Inner City Blues Give peace a chance etc etc. Might be one for another thread but some of the best music has been a "reaction" to something or a...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I'm a bit younger than you I think but I agree. The pressure to "succeed" and the general way society, the economy etc work is stacked against young people. Housing, education, pensions and transport are for many unaffordable. I would hate to be young today and life doesn't seem as hopeful and...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I'd never heard of him before and had no idea what it would sound like really as I missed the nomination before listening to the album. The opening track was really good and I was hoping the rest of the album would be like that. I was a bit disappointed when the styles changed but I have to say...

The life of a Junior Football coach

It's great that you do it and believe me you will be far more appreciated than you think. The kids will also look up to you too. I'm like you in that I played football well into my 40s and loved it. I tried to get my son into it but I hated the entire experience - gobby and aggressive parents...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

It's a bit of an odd album for me this as I think it's trying to hit a pop/synth/rock/indie sweetspot which is something which might land in my sweet spot....but there's something which isn't doing it for me. I had a Ting Tings feel about it but the Tings are really good at what they do. I...

    Castles

The ones in Northumberland are amazing such as Dunstanborough, Bamborough, Alnwick etc. The ones near the sea just seem so magical really. It's hard to pick a favourite but Warkworth Castle and the road leading from the town to the castle is probably the most English scene you can imagine.

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Maybe it is a UK thing but the Roses are probably the most influential band of the last 35 years though. Anyone around the indie genre will be influenced by them. It might only be one record but for many people that's all that was needed. It's not one of the top 5 UK albums ever as like you say...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I don't think they are one of the ultimate 5 but I think they are very important! I didn't vote for them (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zepellin, Bee Gees, Stones) but as time goes by, they are remembered and revered and surely that deserves some credit? They've influenced a lot of 'indie' bands...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

The whole album is packed with memories for me that I couldn't give it anything less! I've listened to this album from being 8 to... a more generous age. I've taped it numerous times, bought the LP and when you joined the Brittania Music Club in the 90s is was one of the CDs I ordered for free...

BBC - ultimate British group poll (National Album Day)

I agree and I love both bands too. Both bands had a massive impact in their genres - punk and indie. The Stone Roses album was a turning point in music in the late 80s. I know you can also throw in the Happy Mondays and Inspirals etc but the Roses album brought 'indie' to the charts. I...
