Ocean Rain - Echo & The Bunnymen Silver starts in classic 80's fashion - "You're living proof at my fingertips" is delivered in such a quintessentially 80's way before the rest of the album hits its stride as a Doors cover band. Not that they sound like the Doors but they sound very much Doors...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - Rock & Roll (pg 47)

One definition I saw that I didn't like is that pop music is designed to sell records as opposed to 'proper' music which is art. I also saw a definition that described pop as jazz without the 7th chords or simply as music that isn't jazz or classical.

Good stuff @threespires Where would you consider someone like Bing Crosby in this era? He was once considered the King of Pop and was incredibly famous around the world. Actually can't remember if he was on the jazz playlist? A song like Swinging on a Star might not be an immediate pop style...

Just watched this discussion between two YouTube intellectuals - Alex O'Conner and Destiny. Although it was filmed before the election Destiny does highlight some of the issues raised by @FogBlueInSanFran about democrats having to sink as low as the republicans. He sees that there is no...

Vincent Kompany | Bayern Munich Manager

Pep has ruined the careers of every manager coming to replace him at City. No one else is matching his achievements and everyone else will be judged by them. We need a huge reset in expectations and what success means.

I was going to add some of that but it's early so I attempted a pithy response. They need to keep him hopelessly out of his depth but then have a realistic say if defeating the bad guys. Tough line to walk

The Charlatans are a more swampy southern (USA) roots rock band than Oasis to me. I don't know what the official genre is called. The guitar tone and the way it's played plus the organ sounds make it quite distinct in this era I think - like I said in my review they are a proper grown up band. I...

Ha I feel very unqualified to comment. I do like the earlier stuff you've posted as opposed to the Nashville sound later stuff. The earlier work feels more real because it lacks the polish of the Reeves and Cline stuff. It sounds better but is less appealing It's not super relevant to the...

Tellin' Stories - The Charlatans Despite their name the Charlatans are legit. You listen to them and they just scream elite band material. Every player is great and although Tim Burgess gets mixed reviews I think he's got the perfect voice to give this an air of authenticity. If he was a...
