Haha...yours take it to the next level in that case, bursting Mahrez’s kennel in the middle of a lockdown! Why we’re even discussing this is beyond me. Footballers have always been burgled for decades, it just never used to be in the papers.

At the time, yes. He got more medals there but he wasn’t the same player. I’ve read here that he was shot long before he left us but that’s serious revisionism. His last half season was the weakest yet was still our top scorer. The 08/09 season was incredible, but looking back getting £50m was a...

There’s a few of ours who live in the city centre too. The point is though in both cases that most choose the privacy of the far reaching surburbs or the countryside. Whether that’s Birkdale or Formby or Hale Barns or Prestbury or wherever, most want peace and quiet.

Well, the areas they tend to congregate in are some of the wealthiest per capita in the country so not really. It’s not like all your squad live in Manchester, do they?

I think it’s obvious that they’ve a clear bond with the club, and the trophies before and with Guardiola will definitely have played a part. But from watching that Amazon documentary, it’s clear that the senior players have a real connection. Whatever it is, I don’t think that it’s the money.

I know what you mean, that’s what it was like for us as kids. Torres was the first one though where a player left for another English side as a perceived step up. That hurt to be honest. Gerrard had a couple of flirtations in fairness, but it’s history now. The current crop seem motivated as a...

I agree with this. It probably won’t be until next summers transfer window until we see the real knock on effects of it. Don’t think there’ll be that many mega high profile moves this window myself.

Because it’s true? We ship a lad out for £142m and the next thing two other lads walk in at a cost of £141m. The fact that the club even sanctioned something like that at the time surprised every Red I know. Nobody expected them to do that, we were half expecting another Lambert/Balotelli shitshow.

That’s the nature of football though, it’s a largely transient profession. Good players come and go, but sometimes you can say that you saw them at their very best. Torres is a great example of that for us.

They spent the Coutinho money on Allison & Van Dijk.

It’s not my post but I think he means the 2-1 win mentioned in the same sentence was testament to them digging into their reserves and pulling out a win when really needed, ie after three defeats in four, for spirit. If you’d included ‘...and dug out a massive 2-1 win, all’ at the start of your...

I don’t think our business will be that different from yours to be fair. Similar numbers coming in. My own take is that this is the golden chance for the up and coming youth players to save their clubs money. I think we’ll see Jones for us and Foden for you a lot more next year. I know you’ve...

I think we’ll definitely bring two or three in. Not arsed one bit who they are, if Klopp wants them, that’s good enough for me. That Werner looks half decent, but does too much yapping in the press for my liking. Don’t see too many big fees happening this summer though.

Got you, I see what you’re getting at now. Out of interest, where do you see Silver Lake’s expertise aiding you the most?

Ah, I didn’t realise that they were on the board in an executive capacity. And I take your point re the future being the important thing, I meant that decisions made by the board ultimately attracted them. The key issue really is that football people make football decisions and suits make the...

I agree with this. They’re attracted to the club because of the potential returns it brings, but they’re not going to have much, if any say, in the decisions. It’s the decisions that have already been made which are important, that’s why they invested. They’re a presence, no doubt, but...

I’ve obviously got no great love for that lot, but like you say there, decent people do decent things. Fair play to the lad. Same with Neville, one of my most hated players ever, but I think he’s brilliant now. If someone had said I’d type that sentence twenty years ago, I’d have told them to...
