I didn't say that I was offended. I said it was a piss poor effort. Unfortunately, for all of us, there is no statute of limitations upon inept wit.

In the early days of the Famine (1845, in particular but also '46) potatoes were exported also. So, both factually and morally, that's a pretty weak attempt at humour.

There were indeed atrocities committed in the Irish Civil War. All tolled about 1700 (hundred) people (mostly soldiers) were killed. Interestingly, Cromwell popped over to Ireland to put the finishing touches on the English Civil War and slaughtered 17000 (thousand) soldiers... and 200,000...

Ah, it was all the fault ilof those pesky colonies for not acquiescing. Good to see that the British education system is still churning them out.

I don't want to spark off another series of tit for tat posts between us (one thing we can agree on is that we both have better things to do this evening, at least) but the fact that Sands a convicted terrorist has no bearing whatsoever if one does not recognise the legitimacy of the UK's...

I sincerely wish you were right. You presumptuous arse.

And that's why I'd defend anyone in Ireland who doesn't wear a lilly at Easter too.

That's an inherently decent post. Well said.

My apologies. You're right. Margaret Deery wasn't shot dead. It wasn't for the want of trying though. Perhaps I should have used one if the dozen or so unarmed kids, aged between 14 and 19 who were shot that day?

Thing is, as much as you obviously care, nobody else is obligated to do so. Getting yourself worked up about it, only proves a point about poppy fascism. The British Army fucked up spectacularly on Bloody Sunday. That's an historical fact acknowledged by even the British Government.

That's fair comment. In his defence, I think he was cornered into giving a response after the tabloids had used his choice to trigger the gammons.

Right, you've convinced me. He should wear his poppy to commemorate brave soldier 19 who pointed and aimed and shot dead an unarmed mother. I didn't answer your question because it's irrelevant, hypothetical fantasising. It's NOT just about the two World Wars.

I was, yeah. Happy now? The guy doesn't want to wear a Poppy. That's his choice. He doesn't owe anybody any explanation. Get over it.

"A convenient excuse"? Jesus wept, man. Wind your neck in. You're so busy projecting your own prejudices onto the guy that you can't get allow your jaundiced mind to accept that Bloody Sunday - and the kangaroo farce if an inquiry that followed - is a bloody good reason for anybody to eschew the...

In fairness, any keeper that doesn't let the opposition player know that headers aren't cheap, on his watch, wouldn't be worth having in the side.

Undoubtedly. The media want(ed) Liverpool to win because 'phoenix club rises from the ashes' it's a better story than 'moneybags club does it again'. Having established these tropes for their (diminishing) readership, they had (some still have even) pretty much painted themselves into a corner...

    Liverpool thread 2018/19

It's always puzzled me how we got more abuse and ridicule from the media for failing to win in the league in record time, that day v the rags, than they ever did for shooting their load three weeks early in 2014.
