Album Of The Year - 2024

Got a list of 10 from this year and just juggling with the order, but my favourite of the year is Highway Prayers by Billy Strings. At 20 songs and 74 minutes, it’s too long, but there is a core of songs on here that is just superb, and Billy must be one of the best players of guitar/banjo for...

    My YouTube channel….. Episode 1 (P15)

Nicely done, and thanks for the mention. What’s spooky is that you mentioned the three YouTubers based in Manchester - obviously I’m one but many years ago, I knew one of the others. When I was a mere lad in the late 80s, I worked with Ian Cheeseman at Radio Cavell in Oldham.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Really? That doesn’t sound like people on here. We have a good group of contributors who get along well. Not saying that it didn’t happen but maybe it was a case of crossed wires or misinterpreting a joke or maybe you even wandered into a heated debate that was happening at the time. We...

You are the master of pulling these one-off posters in for a high score :) To be fair, it happens with a lot of nominations but I think yours just land nicely with people of a certain age.

Album Of The Year - 2024

Listening to music these days is a right old balancing act, but in a good way. Keeping up with all of the music threads on here (to be fair, I've started a few of them!) has changed what I listen to for a good percentage of the time - I am enjoying listening to stuff that I've not heard before...

    The Title Race - 2024/25

Well that’s their lead cut by 18% in one match.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I think mrbelfry mentioned this in his write-up so I’ll add it. It’s a great song and it has the added bonus of an artist crafting a song after a chance encounter with a chain gang on a highway. “Chain Gang” - Sam Cooke

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

A busy evening so far gave me just the right amount of time for a first listen to SHA (drove my family into Manchester, parked up, had a pizza, they are seeing Wicked - musical, not film - I’m back home for the match and then I’ll be back into the city to pick them up again!) Anyway, enjoyed...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Good stuff. I'm, a casual Queen fan content to listen to a Greatest Hits now and again and watch a fabulous tribute act on holiday. So it will be good to listen to one of their earlier efforts in full.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

I know that OB1 is one of only 3 or 4 people on here who appreciate Tom Petty and the HEARTbreakers, but it's probably too much to hope that it's them. I suspect either a 70s/80s rock outfit but so far I'm coming up blank.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

I thought that when OB1 said yesterday that he'd be "rolling out" an album today, that was a clue that it was going to be the Stones, but I don't think so now.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Blonde on Blonde, Bob Dylan's classic, scores a no-better-than-respectable 6.5. 15 people voted, but how many were voting for Dylan and how many his harmonica? Thanks to @BlueHammer85 for the nomination. I expect a change of pace next, as this week's nominator is @OB1.

I recognise that cover too because I had it.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I'm happy for it to go in. If the album and song were popular in 1960, and it hasn't been mentioned before, it's reasonable to include it now. Also, for future reference, it's reasonable for the person "in charge" for the week to make this type of decision (but thanks for asking anyway).

Excellent. I can see some of us using this term in the future. The "Road to Macclesfield" indicating that we liked something, but not that much.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I think this thread is taking on a life of its own now and we’ll probably just go with the will of the people. IIRC, I may have added those ground rules after we’d been running a bit. @Saddleworth2 reminds me that we’d agreed on a “Maximum of 10”, so I’m happy to go with that as guidance. As...

Album Of The Year - 2024

I’d say that people can put forward as many (max 10) or as few as they want. If you only have 3 albums, they score 10, 9 and 8 etc. As for me, remarkably, I have more than 10 but there’s only 0.01% chance that there will be any crossover with other people’s choices :)
