Leaving this one late due to finsihing work late last night and being very busy....and a case of having to come down from the clouds.
Once again it has been good to read others reviews to help a relative novice, when it comes to Bob, to listen that little bit more carefully.
First listen and it was all about the harmonica, listen number 2 ( I suppose I could have used "next listen") and I'm afraid I realised the harmonica had poisoned my mind to this one. It was then though that i read a couple of the other reviews where it pointed out the musicianship of the backing. So on listen number 3 it did suddenly open it up for me. I got alot more of the subtle organ/piano and guitar. the fact that there was some decent blues bits and almost a bit of funk on some of the tracks....and it would have been so much better if someone hadnt given little booby that fucking harmoica.
I had to question why on earth anyone thought it a good idea to stick Rainy Day Woman as the first track. To me its an album closer, throw away joke track, something for a B Side. Pledging My Time wasnt 2 bad but yes...was spoilt by something...hmmmm.
But from then on the run of tracks from Visions Of Johanna through to LSPBH were excellent.
One Of Us Must Know, Stuck Inside Of The Mobile, LSPBH & Most Likely You Go Your Way were excellent...most notably from their relative lack of...yes you guessed it...that bloody harmonica...but I'm not fixated on it honest!
Overall a new experience and one that got better with more listens. Without the mouth organ I think it would be an 8-9 but I think I have to knock it because of that and so it's a 7 from the Derry jury, mainly for The Band
