Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

That is a good story to tell people - that you saw Bill Haley. I must admit, I was surprised when I found out during my research that it was “His Comets”, but you’ll notice that it is there in big black letters on the photo caption :)

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Yeah but most of those aren’t as good as roots rock, which is quintessentially American.

    Not far off.

    My YouTube channel….. Episode 1 (P15)

This does sound like a good channel. @Mad Eyed Screamer was picking my brains for a while and his idea is a niche one, but I'm looking forward to it. Best of luck with the channel.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

That's a very astute observation. I'm still listening and formulating my review, but some of this album is hard work. And I'm a Dylan fan (well, some of his work, anyway).

I hope that he doesn't push himself too hard, but it would be nice if he was back before the end of the season:- https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/nov/28/rodri-aiming-to-defy-odds-and-make-his-manchester-city-comeback-this-season

I thought you'd go for this sooner or later. It was the leopard-skin hat that gave it away.

Except it isn't, as we are finding out :)

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Not. sure. if. serious. Good that this thread has put you right, mind. I'm sure we'll see as the thread progresses that certain British groups became very good at adapting American roots music.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

True, but you don't hear any of that on the records; that was my point.

It's already there and has been since the first write-up, along with a link to the playlist - see index at the end of post #1.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Ocean Rain by Echo and The Bunnymen pulled in 15 reviews at a very respectable average of 7.07. Thanks to @bennyboy for the nomination. Next up, fresh from keeping us entertained for 5 months in the Bluemoon Cup, is @BlueHammer85.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

This is very good. Not sure whether I've heard this version although there are so many versions, it's head to remember. Good that this is the original and was actually written by Frankie Lymon and co. As we make our way through these playlists, I'm occasionally taking a quick look at Wikipedia...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

That's a great shout. One of my hopes for this thread was to spot the first use of certain instruments or techniques or approaches and the emergence of new genres. This is a great example.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Sorry to be a pain but can I request that people put the track name and artist at the end of the request because it's sometimes hard to parse the text for what is being asked for. e.g. Waterloo - ABBA

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I agree about the Everly Brothers but a quick look down the writing credits for the few Buddy Holley albums reveals that he really didn’t write or co-write that much. Maybe more than his contemporaries but still a small proportion of the songs on his albums.
