    Campbell Leaves Macc !!

Did you criticise Bentworth much when he left Newcastle? Macc seems a shambles and it looks like they've departed on good terms.

"The Athletic" launches in the UK | About to be bought by NYT for $550m (p 32)

If you've got the time to read a couple of in depth articles a day then definitely IMO. There's a number of discount offers flying around until the end of August.

    Caroline Lucas proposal to parliament

Lucas has done well to unite the country on this topic. Everyone thinks it's bonkers.

"The Athletic" launches in the UK | About to be bought by NYT for $550m (p 32)

Sounds strange but it's very easy to avoid articles you don't want to read. All are given equal footing on the app unlike a traditional paper which might have a similarly nauseating piece spread over the back 4 pages. I'm loving it so far. Thought Michael Cox's article yesterday on the promoted...

"The Athletic" launches in the UK | About to be bought by NYT for $550m (p 32)

I feel like my opinions are better and more worth sharing if they've been formed from analysing unbiased information. Just like in any walk of life - doing a PhD (theoretically) means you know as much about that topic as anyone, but you don't get there without reading papers around the subject.

Deal agreed with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane - €60m (including add-ons)

I don't believe wanting to stay/leave is binary. He's probably pretty happy at City, but also thinks he could be happy at Bayern on much higher wages. It's not like he's fallen out with the manager/squad here.

Deal agreed with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane - €60m (including add-ons)

I don't think Leroy would be being accused of a lack of effort if he wasn't potentially departing. I've never had the impression from him as being lazy on the field. He's always willing to gamble on a through ball and gets back and defends as well as any of our other attackers.

    The Conservative Party

No, I did. I've been saving a sensible amount and I have that nest egg because I didn't blow it on a new car.

    The Conservative Party

I agree. But the UK entered the recession already managing a deficit. Whatever way you spin it to me, I'll consider that a critical flaw in Labour's management of the economy.

    The Conservative Party

I know, they were expecting boom years to continue forever. They were naive.

    The Conservative Party

There's always a recession coming; it's the cycle of boom and bust. Labour declared the cycle over so they could spend frivolously.

    The Conservative Party

I was 17 so not that well nuanced in global politics and economics. I think that even then I'd have thought it unlikely that something that had existed throughout capitalism would suddenly end because I wanted to splash some cash though. Predicting when the cycle switches is difficult, but...

    The Conservative Party

Brown followed Keynesian economics which dictate that you build a surplus when the going's good and invest it through recessions to stimulate the economy and keep people in jobs. Your second paragraph is hilarious. "If the economy hadn't gone bust, the boom and bust cycle may well have ended"...

    The Conservative Party

Disagree. If Labour had accumulated a surplus in the late 90s and early 00s, then investing that nest egg throughout the recession would have saved jobs. The recession wasn't Labour's fault, but our ability to manage the effects of it was.

    The Labour Party

But then where do you draw the line with what's political?
  16. C

    Jo Swinson

Keynesian economics has another half to that story. As well as investing through recessions (which is indeed a good idea), you also have to build a surplus whilst the economy is performing well. That surplus can then be invested through the following recession and so on the cycle goes...

Cricket World Cup 2019 - England World Champions!!!

He didn't say they deserved the win (if it's the comment I heard); rather that they were the better team today. I'd tend to agree with that. The better team frequently loses or draws.

It's Quiet 32 - enter at own risk

Tommy Doyle? Foden will hopefully be becoming a first team regular and we won't need a huge signing to cover the minutes Foden played last season. And Rodri is definitely Fernandinho's replacement. Not sure why you think we need another.

    Wimbledon 2019

She's doing brilliantly, but looked tired at times today. She'll do brilliantly to get past Halep. Mindful not to put too much expectation on her either. This run is very similar to Laura Robson's in 2013.

    Anderlecht Thread 2019/20

I'll keep half an eye on how Vinnie's getting on in management. He's brought in a lot of players already, including Samir Nasri today.
