Ask Granny if she played. Manchester Corinthians

For those who have been interested in the Manchester Corinthians research I’ve been doing over the last decade…. The book has now been published. I’ve self funded it and it’s a non profit making book so if anybody is interested then please get it ordered direct from me. You can do that here...

    Media discussion - 2024/25

When City won the League in 2012 the soundtrack could’ve been At Last by Etta James.

    Media discussion - 2024/25

Maybe it’s time to challenge all those in the media who claimed football was over/dull/doped because City ‘have more money’, ‘it’s not fair’ etc. Many of those journalists who are now sticking the boot in because City have bad results are the same who claim it’s unfair when we manage an...

    Bananas

It’s one of my photos from that day. Nudge me in a few weeks when I get chance and I’ll see if the others show the area you’re in.

It drives me mad that the Varadi story still does the rounds. It’s down to that Granada report where they went in the old shop. The video has reappeared in recent years so the story took off again. Frank’s the man and the true story is much better than the Varadi story anyway.

That’s my photo from Stoke. I’ve used it in a couple of my books.

    St Mark’s first

More or less but numbers did vary at times. I reckon the Macc Baptists turned up with 12 so they said they’d play 12 so that no one missed out.

    St Mark’s first

St Mark’s as a football club had long gone by 1894. Have a read of the article and watch the video via the link as I go through it all there. Lots of reincarnations, new clubs and turning points along the way. It’s fascinating but myths develop...

    St Mark’s first

It was a new company. St Mark’s and every other iteration is absolutely important and must not be forgotten but in 1894 MCFC was a new company (and briefly Ardwick played on after MCFC established). The issue is that MUFC should never use 1878 - the club was established in 1902 in a similar way...

    City accounts on bluesky

I joined blue sky a while ago but didn’t do much with it. Think it’ll become my preference I’ve Musk’s world. If anyone’s interested my account is: @garyjames.bsky.social I still have my Facebook which seems okay but negativity and extreme views seem to reign in Musk’s world.

    St Mark’s first

Walter Chew, who claimed his brother founded the club, was still around into the 1940s and was interviewed by the BBC and others about the club’s history. He saw the club go from nothing to League Champions. As did Lawrence Furniss who was another player in the 1880s, though not the first...

    St Mark’s first

But 1880 is only the earliest known game. For various reasons I think they played before this date. 1894 is MCFC’s foundation and correct. If MUFC want to lie and say they were formed in 1878 instead of 1902 that’s their fake history.

    St Mark’s first

Born in West Gorton, then Gorton, Ardwick etc. The West Gorton bit often gets overlooked but it was a separate township in between Ardwick and Gorton. Each move tended (not quite always) to take the club to a bigger area. What an amazing journey.

    Remember Bradford 87 (yes 87)?

Yes. I remember thinking that everything was conspiring against us getting the win.

    Remember Bradford 87 (yes 87)?

They were top and White replaced Lake and scored the 3rd.

    Remember Bradford 87 (yes 87)?

Yes, next away game was 4-3 at Swindon. Heady days! Obviously, we’d already broken the spell a little with the League Cup win at Wolves earlier in October too.

    Remember Bradford 87 (yes 87)?

Big family, ‘yeah, we all came in same car. That’s uncle Tommy, grandad George…’ I remember being at a Leeds game and they’d kept us in. We were all saying to police and stewards that they’ll be getting in position for when they let us out. Sure enough City fans had bottles dropped on them from...
