    Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Rooney on MOTD said Fodens should have been a pen, Micah and Redknapp on Sky both thought the handball should have been a pen.

If you keep the line going up, then it goes through the point of the arm that would be in line with the bottom of his armpit. It’s that that’s the reference point, not the elbow.

Yes I agree with your sentiment there and said the same earlier in the thread. It’s that close that personally, I’d rather not have VAR involved at all. We are where we are though.

Not for a straight red, there was some that were arguing it should have been a second yellow.

Yep and looking again at the automated one, it does look like they’ve done that if you keep the line going up. I just don’t think they’ve used the right frame.

    The Labour Government

A lot of people are going off the polls right now, which are pretty pointless when it comes to the election. If reform are still strong, there’ll be a shedload of tactical voting going on, more than any election we’ve had before.

I thought he oversold the push and was looking for the foul as he realised he was in the wrong position and wasn’t going to get to the ball. If you watch it back, he’s trying to push other players out the way too and isn’t able to get the space because he’s moved himself into the congested area...

Ok I’ll try again! The offside line isn’t directly down to the ground from the armpit. It’s from the part of the arm that’s directly in line with the bottom of the armpit when in a standing position and then down, so about 4 or 5 inches down from the shoulder. When someone is side on like Dias...

Not sure what else needs explaining there? It’s why it’s dubbed the sleeve rule (although it’s not in reality as teams could just have longer sleeves!)

It is not the armpit in terms of directly down, it’s the part of the arm that would be in line with the armpit when in a natural position. I haven’t seen anyone draw the line down at the right place yet. They do tend to use the sleeve though.

To be fair, it’s obviously not a two footed lunge, think you just mean both his feet were off the ground don’t you? I wouldn’t be arguing for a red for it, it’s reckless and so should be given as a foul and a yellow card.

From the part of the arm closest to the goal that would be in line with the bottom of the armpit when in a natural position. It’s where they judge handballs from too.

    Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Yeah it’s rare that it all happens in one game. On the offside, I think they’ll have to come out and explain it more. I haven’t seen one that’s actually drawn the line from the right place to be able to tell. The ones on social media are going directly down from the bottom of the armpit, which...

The only one I feel strongly about is the Phil one, thought that was a quite obvious reckless challenge. The handball is a subjective one, think VAR would have gone with whatever had been decided on the pitch. Their second goal, I didn’t think it was enough for a foul and Donnarumma needed...

    VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

I think they should have sent the Foden one back down to the pitch for a review as I thought that was a reckless challenge. That was the only one I thought VAR didn’t deal with well today though (aside from the time it took to review their second goal) and even the Foden one, I get why they...

    Joke thread

Just finished reading an excellent book called "Fights on a Narrowboat" by R.G. Bargee.

    The Labour Government

The last polls I saw, although pretty level, showed the majority still thought that people seeking asylum via small boats should still have their claims processed.

Of course it would still be reported on if it was someone else, they always report on the findings of the panel around decisions like that and I’m glad they do, it should be of interest to most and that it was one way around the decision itself and another around VAR is an interesting outcome...
