Have we ever thrown away a 4 goal lead?

I'll start looking... I do know about a game where we had a 3-0 lead in first 30 mins and lost 5-4. It was regarded as the game of the season (not by City fans though!). You can read about it here: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/12/03/amazing-comebacks/

50 years ago today… Watch this!

It was about 2.5 weeks after the derby. That was on 12 November and this was 29 November.

Interesting what you say about City fan LS Lowry. In his painting of Maine Rd (see image) he used artistic licence to make the railings red instead of blue or the green they were said to be back then.

Yes, I think it was Hugh. You can hear him laugh at one point too. Imagine the over the top analysis of minor incidents we get these days being applied to this game.

    Liverpool (H) - Sun 9th Nov, 16:30 | PL | Pre-Match Thread

No doubt we’ll get all the empty seats/where were you crap as usual. Most LFC fans won’t want to admit this but back in the 80s 2nd tier City’s average crowd was only a couple of thousand less than league champions Liverpool (both had empty seats at home). Follow the link...

    Media discussion - 2025/26

As a response to some negativity about our PL results I thought I’d write this comparing this season with 2020-21 when some made very similar comments to this season. Worth a read (follow the link): https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/11/01/lessons-from-history-mcfc-2020-2025/

Football league teams City have never played in our history

I think the fact it was played at Bath probably added to the unusual aspect of it, though they played there for some time. The Video is well worth watching via my earlier link. It shows both the Maine Rd and Twerton Park games.

Who in your opinion epitomises "Mr Manchester City?"

This might be useful…. https://gjfootballarchive.com/2021/03/09/the-origins-of-manchester-city-facts-not-fiction/ The ‘vicar’s daughter’ story was introduced in the 1970s by someone who missed crucial evidence; many of us fell for it; in 2000s a man writing a book on multiple clubs founded by...

Who in your opinion epitomises "Mr Manchester City?"

Thanks for the mention but, in truth, I don’t think anyone should ever be seen as ‘Mr Manchester City’ as we all contribute to this club in some way. There are fans who bang the drum repeatedly; others who have spent a fortune buying everything the club produce; others travelled everywhere etc...

    John Stapleton passed away

John lived in Saddleworth for a while too. He talked about getting the bus to City from there when I interviewed him years ago: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/09/22/john-stapleton-2014-interview/
