Skip again…. I used to chat to him when he was coaching at Plat Lane, years after being manager. Absolutely loved the club.
Maybe Colin or Buzzer too. Kinda showing my age.
Kompany more recently, but can’t put him in as he is currently manager of the Bavarian Rags - still time though.
Pete Barnes is a shout, think he is still organising the City vets, always up for a chat about the blues. Same with Paul Lake - great bloke and top blue. Have I named too many?

Another mention for who could be named is you lads … you’ll know who you are those who scrimped , saved , got there by any means just to have that city feeling.
Years before social media and needing and wanting likes me / you did the yards sacrificing a lot just to get that city fix
You all represented City especially in the dark days of disappoint and disbelief.

Thanks for the mention but, in truth, I don’t think anyone should ever be seen as ‘Mr Manchester City’ as we all contribute to this club in some way. There are fans who bang the drum repeatedly; others who have spent a fortune buying everything the club produce; others travelled everywhere etc. I always cringe when I hear or read someone describe themselves as ‘biggest fan’, ‘Mr Manchester City’ or similar. All fans, players, managers, staff, directors etc contribute and, while it’s absolutely wonderful when people mention my name I’m definitely not anything special - just a City fan who wants our club to be recognised for everything properly.

The ‘vicar’s daughter’ story was introduced in the 1970s by someone who missed crucial evidence; many of us fell for it; in 2000s a man writing a book on multiple clubs founded by churches developed the story (and named the vicar’s daughter as Anna) which helped sell his book; Radio 4 did a programme on it (I’m on there but am not happy with the way it told the story/edited me and I have complained); that book and R4 programme turned the story into ‘fact’ but there’s no evidence that she was involved at all. In fact when the St Mark’s sports teams were developing she probably wasn’t even in Manchester….

Lots to say but Anna Connell has no contemporary evidence while those that were there at formation talked about the people - the boys who played cricket, including William Chew (not Walter Chew, though he was a more important figure overall than his brother) - who founded the club in articles and other media in later decades.

Descendent of the Hopkinson clan from Gorton where my dad was born - Edward Hopkinson -
