He’s a fucking brilliant operator (as well as being a ****).

I know he regularly turns up at his units alone and unannounced, and engages with the manager when he’s there to get the lowdown, so he’s definitely got his finger on the pulse more than most CEOs. Plus he’s built the entire business from scratch himself - how many CEOs of PLCs can say that?

I also know he refuses any form of corporate entertainment for him or his directors. He says to his suppliers, ‘if you can afford to take us to the races then you can sell me beer cheaper and that’s what I want’. He see corporate entertainment as a form of misdirection and he’s got a point, although some of the best days of my life have been spent on corporate piss ups so I’m not in his camp on that one!

Infrequently visit them but if I’m staying away in a one horse town (e.g. Merthyr Tydfil) then I’ll sometimes get a bite to eat there. The food is decent and well priced, they are generally clean, well ran and good value for money. I’ll also sometimes work from there in the morning if there’s nowhere else open in a town I don’t know, as some of them open up at 07:30.

Think the two that stick out for having the most depressing punters drinking beer in the early morning are Hanley and Walsall. Went to one in Grimsby last year and could not believe how busy it was well before noon, but the punters in there were definitely a grade above those in Walsall and Hanley!

Disagree with his politics, and most definitely on the EU, but I’ve got a lot of respect for him as an operator.
 
In not so many words, he's basically a **** because he has a different stance on Europe to some on here.

Fucking hell.

His European political stance will be a plus point to quite a few less on here, bit they won't come on here, calling him a great guy.

I couldn't give two fucks about his politics, but to call the fella a **** is quite pathetic, and shows some posters up for what they are.
 
The Guardian has an excellent article on Sam Smith* and his pubs.
In short, him and his family are weird and nasty.
A large number of his pubs are empty and decaying. He basically lives in the 1950's and runs his pubs that way. Fair do's they are his but he turfed out one couple because they used a plug in air freshener and he decided they were using another beer rather than his because it smelt different.

*His first name ain't Sam.

No idea and add on that I do not care who are cunts but I do not like brewdog beers but use Wetherspoons pubs no problem.
A pint of Guinness for under a fiver is a no brainer.The Wembley one when we are allocated that end takes a bit of beating for away days pub.

I read the magazine killing time in Fleetwood about 5 years ago, he calculated the Calories in a pint of beer proving it wasn't that bad. Something like 568*0.04*7 for a 4% beer at just under 160 kcal.

He neglected to realise or admit that there was energy other than the alcohol, so I realised he was a liar and not to be trusted, but clearly has editorial to print lies on his own magazine.

They also stopped serving Blue Moon last year.

Aberdeenshire fisherman turned beer brewer who, jad repeatedly been a bellend, be lt a string of allegation from former staff that his company breaks several employmemt laws on hrs worked, overtime, frequemt sexual harrasment claims, unethical pay schemes and a culture of fear etc

Add the **** likes to claim he is a punk brewer yet loves to sue smaller brewers or pubs for stupid reason then drop the cases after said smaller company has incured thousands in legal cost, just to throw his weight around.
There are more accusations of cuntishness I cannot fully recall

finallly dozens of ex female.employees have said they felt unconfortable, threatened or sexually harrassed when watt would visit, rumours abound that he would pick up pissed female customers and offer private tours of the brewery and some mangers would give female staff the night off if he was due a visit.

All round scum bag by the sounds of it, plus the flat shite he peddles is generic and tastes the same half the time, but put it in a shiny can and give it a funky name.amd people lap it up

Tim martins just a typical tory bellend businessman, my only gripe with him was when they first opened and forced other pubs to go under , but thats 20+ years ago now they are part of drinking culture and for those less afluent offer a service despite the owner

Watts is a horrible **** all round and his pubs are wank and beer overpriced dishwater

Its easy to spout this shite when your work is lsn't 3 shit part time jobs no one traveling on buses and your day off is just doing housework and trying to rest.

She sound like she has never done a physically demanding job in her life that needs time away fromm it for your own sanity and physical wellbeing. The culture or work to live not live to work is a correct idea, not their nonsense

Now I am a slight workaholic where I will do a lot more hrs than I am paid for because of my pasion for my job however even I know it isn't healthy and would never expect it to be the norm or any of my team to do it, people need a life away from work


But then this set of cunts would abolish the minimum wage and workng time directive and probably believe in work houses and child labour

I absolutely adore what I do for a living, but I never ever forget how lucky I am to do so, and I appreciate that for most people a job is a means to an end, and a fucking grind most of the time. I always appreciate that I am the exception to most people’s lived work experience.

People like them live in a sociopathic bubble and think the rules that apply to their pampered, cosseted lives apply to everyone, but they don’t. Most people are too busy living pay cheque to pay cheque and simply trying to survive to even contemplate ‘work life integration’ ffs.

It’s a proper ‘let them eat cake’ thing to say.
