Good morning Nimmers (eight hours later).
Just having my morning coffee. Just back in from Home Depot where I picked up eight, 4x8' sheets of plywood. Ripping up the old hardwood in the house. At $30.00 per sheet, it's going to cost around $1,100.00 in plywood alone.

Do you live in a shed?

That's just for two of the bedrooms. It's a 1000'sq bungalow. 30 sheets in total.

Why do north america's build there houses out of wood and not bricks and mortar ?

Because bricks don't grow on trees.
P.S, my house (and lot's of other houses) are built with bricks and mortar.

There are several advantages to stick framing a house over bricks and mortar:

Available material
Speed of construction
insulation
ease of utilities ie plumbing, wiring and h vac are very easy to run through studs
Attachment of shelving, cabinets etc is way easier when you have wood studs all through the house
And you can always side it with a masonry product

There are downsides too but I think the above out weigh them
