£80 fine for not registering.

Threatening letter from the council for not submitting details for the Electoral Registration Officer.
Is this enforceable?
Who gets the money if paid?
Asking for a friend.
(yes he's lazy and anti establishment)
My last place sent me a letter, and another letter, and then another letter. They eventually came around with said threat and the Mrs told them that we wouldn’t be voting as it’s a staunch Tory area. They got in their car and fucked off, nothing more.

It's not a threatening letter. It's offering a choice to obey the law and register, or be fined.

Money collected by the Council but goes to The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to be paid into the Consolidated Fund.

Why on earth is it compulsory to register electorally? It suggests to me that the data is being used for other purposes. Suppose I don’t want to be on the voter rolls?

Depending on location, I’ll tell them ‘no’ and never had an issue.

It doesn’t surprise me making money out of the public :) I once tried not going on the electoral role the only reason was the guy knocking on the door for the form got my back up a proper jobsworth because I didn’t have the form ready.
Filled it in but only after I made him call back for it, it looks likes he’s been promoted to your area

£80 doesn't pay for the costs of sending people round to check why no-one's registered.
