“City Matters” fan committee

This whole posts confirms my opinion that City Matters is a total farce presided over by pompous self important busy bodies who represent no one but their own self interest. They will achieve nothing positive and spend a lot of time doing it.

Sounds like the reps that resigned have twigged this and done the right thing, and the reps that remain don't have the intelligence or integrity to follow suit.

The club's direct engagement with fans through surveys (like the one yesterday) is a much better way of gauging the true opinions of our fan base.
This post confirms my opinion that you'd fit in very well with a group of pompous, self-important windbags.

You think so? I am sick of surveys and don't bother with them. Fan engagement inevitably involves argument. Whether anyone listens, we'll have to see.

Well done to those who try. Thankless task at times.

I read this this morning, and would like City to do something similar.

Just curious as I have read what PB has wrote twice and am confused how you have come to the conclusion you have? I'm nothing at all to do with City Matters but feel that it is beneficial as a fan personally.

It will take time for us to see what CM achieves and what our reps achieve. They are still learning and will decide for themselves too if it's worthwhile. I do get the impression though a few people are impatient for it to fail and say I told you so, whether that's because of issues with various reps or just like a reason to complain about the club management I don't know.

I fear you are correct, there is always a tinge of jealousy when forums and sub-groups are setup I find, we have a few working groups at work and I often find certain colleagues that aren't invited to be a part of them (due to their argumentative nature and one track minds mainly) are the ones who go round throwing mud and trying to making things fail just so they can be 'right'. As you have said the progress needs to be assesed further down the line rather than ideas being poopooed at a relatively early stage. Moaners gona moan!

Everyone on the city matters forum should have resigned if what is being said is true.

Coty should give the City Matters Group a fair break and announce that Season Card prices for next season will be frozen. Lots of other Clubs are announcing price freezes

Two minority groups' reps standing down is a pretty damning indictment of the whole farce, IMHO

Hopefully you three have read the follow up posts since (especially PB's) and are recovering nicely from the knee jerk injuries you all presumably incurred.

So essentially what you're saying is to discount one member's version of events, and take another's as read?

Looks like the DSA rep and LGBT rep have both stood down:

Reading through what Mark has put I would like to know who on the committee thinks it’s a good idea to restrict disabled supporters to only using the toilets at half time ? Absolutely disgusting for someone to even suggest that. I can imagine the uproar if this was suggested for able bodied supporters. I would hazard a guess that this would then be debated at length but then again it only concerns a minority.

Personally I would like to see the reason for the LGBT reps resignation, before I go jumping to conclusions. Mark said he had resigned but he didn't know his reasons.

I can see where Mark is coming from if they were promised an agenda item. However as someone who frequently Chairs committees and arranges agendas (probably once a fortnight & at the moment once a week! I come on here to wind down!) I appreciate how hard it can be to satisfy everyone. They may be bringing it to the next meeting if this one has already been organised or is full, they seem to have timings. Also there is, on the agenda, AOB which would give anyone the chance to bring up either the lack of the agenda item or disability matters surely?

No one thinks it's a good idea. But we never got to discuss these various issues formally with the club, despite having two mechanisms for potentially doing that. Now Mark's gone, who knew all about these issues, the other 8 of us have little or no knowledge of the practical issues so we'll be starting from square one with another rep, who doens't have the same profile or knowledge that Mark has. If anyone was expecting every problem we face as fans, able-bodied or otherwise, to be solved after the first couple of meetings then they're somewhat naive.

The club can definitely be hard work at times but they're not malicious, just possessed of a particular mindset whereby they tend to think rather short-term in some areas and simply don't look at things from our viewpoint. CM is there to force them to do that. They also seem to have an attitude that if something is only working at 50% then they won't change it unless they can get it to 100%. What we're saying is it's OK to get it to 60% then 70% and then maybe 80% and to accept that 80% may be as good as it'll be and it'll probably never be 100%.

Mark stated that a city rep thinks it’s ok to restrict the use of toilets to half time , are you saying this wasn’t said ?
If so then my apologies, if it was said then it’s a disgrace and whoever said it should be made to apologise and stand down from the forum as the same comment wouldn’t have been said about able bodied supporters.

Sorry.

Where are we with the meetings and any new minutes?

New news and minutes seem to be ad hoc and hit and miss atm.

Thanks.

CM needs more time to deliver positive results for fans as others have said. The members are giving their own time to try to help us.

That said, hopefully the Club don’t have to wait for CM working group reports to rectify apparently straightforward problems like access to disabled toilets.

To be honest, I can't recall whether that was said specifically by one of the City staff attending CM but I certainly would agree that City seem to need a good kick up the backside regarding their attitude to disabled fans in some instances. We all backed Mark on this and he had a platform to take it forward as a group initiative but I think he was a bit hasty and I don't feel he gave it a fair chance.

Is it just PB's opinion though?

Mark’s a member on here for whom I have a great deal of respect so I’m not getting into a public spat with him but to put the other side I will say (and he knows this) that the rest of the committee don’t fully agree with him and have some issues with the tone of that statement.

The LGBT rep standing down is not specifically to do with City Matters as far as I’m aware.

We had the fourth full meeting last Thursday & we've just got the draft minutes from that which, barring any major issues like last time, should be up by the end of the week.

Thanks PB.

As always, appreciate your efforts in a difficult and no win situation.

Is the guillotine working yet? ;-)
