1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

The obvious thing for any goalkeeper is there is only one place up for grabs and to play at the highest level you have to be the dogs bolloxs, he will get his opportunity as he’s only young some of these younger players just don’t have the patience to wait, Palmer being the the example but he’s not really improved his game other than he takes a great penalty.

If he wants to go he can; use him as bargaining chip to newcastle for the playes we are looking at

You might be surprised to know players want to play and not stay on bench or learn on training grounds , that era if at all it existed is long gone .

I think I just had a serendipitous realization.

Been thinking for a while that Trafford suits City better than Donnarumma at playing out from the back.. and control.

But Pep's not an idiot.. he's actually smarter than us and ahead of the curve on a lot of things!

Simply put our midfield is a shadow of it's former self, can't press, can't keep control and maybe Pep realized our midfield is so shit.. we need a proper shot stopper when we lose possession as we can't afford to be 1-3 goals down every game.

Trafford would have been probably the perfect keeper once our midfield would be rebuilt.

But after these comments.. Trafford likely seems done here.. no way.. Pep usually doesn't keep the who aren't happy around. So just like Cancelo.. he'll likely be gone if we get an offer.

Sucks.. I really rated him!

Why because he wants to play regular first team football and knows he has no chance here?
Why did he join then think he was gonna get a free ride at the number one for next 5 years and lift the world cup with England? We want players ready to compete he clearly isnt

When donnarumma becomes available you sign him. Never mind tactics. Simple as that

It’s a bit different for keepers though isn’t it. We signed probably the best shot stopper in the world who’s only 26. Clearly if he’d known we were going to sign Dona he wouldn’t have signed. I don’t think he’s said anything wrong. It’s just one of those things that happens in football. He will leave in the summer and probably go on to have a great career. Good luck to him.

Something a bit odd about this. You'd think that as the players train together most days that at least once it might have come up chatting that Eddie insisted on leaving etc and the change of picture and it seems a bit strange to believe he was totally oblivious and that the subject has never come up in any shape or form.
Not sure who's kidding who here.

Honestly don’t blame him for being frustrated. The club lied to him. WC year and the new coach prioritises game time over anything else, anyone would be fuming. However, he couldn’t really have expected to be n.o1 GK for Man City coming from Burnley in the championship.
I’d imagine Spurs at home is what killed his chance. Big six fixture at home in the afternoon and he couldn’t hold his nerve. How could we expect him to hold his nerve in the UCL?

The juxtaposition of football fans.

Trafford unhappy with playing time = He should be happy to collect the amount of money he does for sitting on the bench.

Kalvin Phillips happy to sit on the bench and collect his wages = He should want to play football elsewhere, have some professional pride.

The ideal scenario would be a 2 year loan to a top team like Chelsea did with Courtois to Atletico years back. At the end of the loan we either make him number 1 or sell him.

Doubt Trafford would go for that though

He hasn't said anything wrong.
He just said exactly what happened, which is what I said the situation was on here a long time ago.
He signed thinking he would be number 2 to ederson but believed that he would have taken on the number 1 role before the end of the season. He knows with donarumma here that he won't ever be number 1 now.
Donarumma coming wasn't planned for but an opportunity arose and it was one we couldn't miss out on.

Coming across as a bit dour in his comments. Keep in mind he’s probably going to be playing in a cup final at Wembley next month. Enjoy that experience and learn from it, it’ll be one of the biggest occasions of your career. For now, just keep it shut and get your move at the end of the season like a top pro.

i might be in the minority but i don't like the way he's speaking at 23 years old regardless what was said in the summer you can't just expect to be no1 you need to fight and earn that spot. it's seems that cup minutes are beneath him i understand he's ambitious but im sure there's a lot of 23 year old keepers who would bite his hand of at the chance to play in a cup final at wembley. potentially if all things go well another 2x at wembley in the fa cup. If he does well in them tuchel would definitely be looking at him closely. no one is replacing pickford atm the hardest thing to displace is the international goalkeeper

Are you thick ? He didn’t know we will sign Donarumma when he signed

I think there's been a bit of a nonsense discourse amongst the more naive city fans that Trafford loves the club so much he would just stay and be no 2 for years, or that he wouldn't push for a move in the summer despite City having Donna as clear no 1.

And after this interview, I think it's blown that concept up for those people so they are lashing out.

Weirdly the people defending him are the ones who knew he would leave since september lol

We need Scotty C to come back in and teach this lad how to be a legend from the bench.

I'm sure we will survive with The Don as number one. Those who genuinely believe Trafford should be ahead of him are rarer than white dog shit these days and make as much sense.
