1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Is that based on the one pre season friendly? Are we now judging players before they’ve even played a proper season or even a game?

If it’s that obvious, pep and the club must really be blind. I wonder why they would buy Trafford and be alright with ortega going?
I think he means on his video game Ortega is an 81 and Trafford is a 73. So he reached his conclusion.

Good reasoning if you ask me :)

What do you think of Trafford's performance v. Palermo?

For the record, this is the first time I've watched Trafford in a long while... but for me, he inspires no confidence whatsoever. For me, Ederson is a far better keeper in the traditional sense (commanding the box, decision making, leading the defense) and a far better 11th player (ability on the ball).

That said, Ederson makes way too many metal mistakes - including against Palermo - Ederson gives away goals more often than he creates goals for our side.
He was a little nervous I thought, understandable on his debut. His distribution got better as the half wore on. In terms of commanding the box, I really fail to see how you come to that conclusion. He dominated his six yard box and from what I have seen of him over the last three seasons is an incredible shot stopper. He will be our first pick at some point this season. Like all goalkeepers he will make mistakes but I think he is a great addition to the squad.

Since when is it the goalies job to create goals for his side? And Ederson didn’t play against Palermo. What in gods name are you on about??!

Trafford played the entire game according to the highlights I watched.
They played a half each and for the record, Ederson did his usual madness in the second half with wild decision making and in the first half Trafford looked comfortable bar a mistake trying to pass it out at the start of the half.

Thank you. My bad. Must get my eyes checked. Apologies also to Bluemoonacrossthepond.

What was Edersons usual madness? When he came out to sweep? Only thing i can recall him doing and that was the correct call. that fuck up was entirely on Dias who knew Ederson was coming looked like he was going to shield the defender to allow ederson to come over the top and then for some unknown reason decided to go for the ball instead.

A decent debut but it is still too soon to write off Ederson for this season and for James Trafford to really establish himself as first choice at City. A good replacement for Stefan Ortega still need another keeper if we are to replace Eddy.

Be interesting t see who pep starts with against wolves, it's not quite Joe hart/Shay given against Tottenham, when nobody knew until an hour before kick off, but there's a decision to be made

Very strange circumstances for Trafford if Ederson leaves and Donnarumma signs - presumably for several seasons.

I can’t imagine he was sold the prospect of having to be second choice to an experienced keeper for more than one season.

Maybe it'll test his attitude, but he'd have joined knowing his job was to compete with [insert name of world class keeper] for top spot. Doesn't matter whether it's Ederson or Donnarumma. From what I've seen, Trafford will back himself, too.

I agree. If we sign Donnarumma, it’s going to become nigh on impossible for him to become our first choice keeper. With Ederson there is a clear pathway.

A season of learning and bedding in is great, but then he needs to be playing every week to develop. Pep isn’t going to drop a 50m keeper who expects to play most games.

having two first team keepers never seems to work out and one of them always ends up leaving because of lack of game time

Love his cool demeanor and would be such bad luck for his development if Dunna arrived. I've no problems letting him play all season.
