1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

He coached half the Chelsea team and Trafford when he was managing the City u21s.
During the period when Maresca was EDS coach, JT was on loan at Accrington Stanley followed by Bolton. I am sure their paths crossed, and the club and Maresca may have been in regular contact, but I don't think Maresca was able to select him as his goalkeeper.

Haha maybe I just don't really like the whole Goalkeeper spraying the ball about. It took me a good while to stop having cardiacs watching Eddy every week.
What's a whole Goalkeeper?
The thing that frustrates me about Donna is the length of time it takes for him to decide what to do with the ball

After then being elevated into Enzo Maresca’s Elite Development Squad at the outset of the 2020/21, Trafford went on to figure 11 times that term to help our Under-21s claim a first-ever Premier League 2 title and also featured on the bench for City’s first team in a 1-0 win at Sheffield United in October of 2020

Am I the only one who thinks Trafford looks equally as shaky as Donnarumma with the ball at his feet? Not sure it's that clear cut. I've been impressed with his general goalkeeping though.
No, you are not. JT has been better on the ball than Donna but that's not exactly a big accomplishment. In the FA Cup Final v Chelsea Trafford's distribution was for shit. I think Trafford's biggest edge over Donna is his ability to handle crosses in traffic. This idea that he's anywhere near Eddy as a passer of the ball is a myth...
Also, JT is an excellent shot stopper IMO...

Agree with this. I was at the Amex when we played on Aug and Trafford was a key reason we lost total control of the game in the 2H. Kept booting the ball upfield aimlessly and gifting the ball back to them.

I am also not certain about handling balls in the box either. The sample set on Trafford in material games is very small. But he totally flapped at a corner in the Cup Final and was extremely lucky that Rodri was on the goal line to head the ball away. if Donnarumma had done that, he would have been lambasted here

Fair doos.
I am pleased. JT would be my first-choice GK. However, I would also be pleased if Pep stayed!

I want JT to start as well. With him in goal we have won 2 trophies with Donna 0. I understand the logic behind Donna but our play looks so much more comfortable with JT. Also I have bias for playing one of our own.

I agree on the eye test we look more fluent with JT in goals and we don't seem to get as many mad scrambles from set pieces although maybe we don't have a big enough sample size on that point.
