OMG I'd forgotten all about Iain Banks.

The Wasp Factory and The Bridge would be up there for me. Genuinely creative and different novels.

Don't worry Chabal. Everybody is bound to miss a couple out. I couldn't find a place for "A Tale of Two Cities" or my Scorcher Annual 1971.

"Complicity" edged out "The Business" and his final novel "The Quarry" (just).

This is your brain on music - Daniel Levetin.

The Eye of the World - Robert Jordan

Is that just the first book or are you referring to the whole series there?

Just finishing the last book at the moment (took me a while to getting round to buying the last book after reading most of the series in Uni years ago), about halfway through and really enjoying it, although after not reading any of the WOT series for 3-4 years there are a few plot lines that are bit vague (in my mind at least) as to how they got to this point.

The first book as I read it quite young, it was the first book in that particular genre I read (bar the Hobbit) and started a literary journey for me. Wouldn't say the entire series as I think Brandon Sanderson made a mess of the last 3 unfortunately.

Some of my favorites have already been mentioned. In particular Catch 22, Bravo Two Zero, Paddy Clarke Ha ha ha, Lord of the Flies and Angela's Ashes.

1. The Beach - Alex Garland
2. The Football Factory - John King
3. The Wrong Boy - Willy Russell
4. American Tabloid - James Ellroy
5. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
6. The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay
7. The Crow Road - Iain Banks
8. A Song of Ice and Fire - George RR Martin
9. The Dark Tower - Stephen King
10. The First Law - Joe Abercrombie

Honourable mention to Bernard Cornwell and David Gemmell.

The Stand
Ender's Game
Speaker for the Dead
The Shining
Doctor Sleep
Child 44
NOS4R2
Hyperion
Fall of Hyperion
Man in the empty suit

In no particular order.
