10 points - just remember this

a major factor in all of this, we conceded the first goal in 4 out of the 6 games we played.
at this level you cannot keep coming back into games like that against the class of teams you face.
that is something we will have to learn.

All down to one goal at the Etihad v Napoli. Whether it was to be one for us or denying them the one they got, it was just one goal on that night.

That was part of it. But in itself not the end of the world. We would still have gone through after that had we gone to Napoli and not lost. We went there thinking we would stuff them and our defence was dire that day. A clean sheet there and we were through.

Then of course there's the Tevez at Bayern situation. What if he had come on? He effectively guaranteed our losing that game as we had taken Edin off already. We would probably have lost anyway but who knows.

The bottom line is you can make mistakes and go through. But you cannot fuck up left right and centre and still get away with it.

I agree the Performance in Naples was the bad one. We just did not perform as a team all night. It was a subdued performance and lacked desire. at 2:1 down with 10 mins to go we did not step on the gas at all. 1 goal then and we were in the box seat.

I still think it was avery strange performance that night.........

-- Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:55 am --

Out of interest.........Does anyone know how many teams with 10 points ( or more ) have not qualified for KO stage of Chumps league ?

And i mean in history of CL

(disclaimer: I had to look all these up, so if my stats are wrong, please correct me!!!)
Since the scoring went to 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw in 95/96:

PSV Eindhoven 10pts. (03/04 - Group C)
Olympiacos 10pts. (04/05 - Group A)
Dynamo Kyiv 10pts. (04/05 - Group B)
Werder Bremen 10pts. (06/07 Group A)
Manchester City 10pts. (11/12 Group A)

So, a total of 5 clubs out of 496 total possible teams and 124 possible groups. That's around 1% of all the teams and 4% of all the groups.

Needless to say, it's fairly uncommon.

Wow ........ didnt realise how uncommon it was ! i do recall a few pundits saying that its all about getting 10 points at this stage to get through to the KO rounds !

Thhe Europa League will not be the great distraction because, although Mancini is talking of winning the competition, we can play a whole range of players from the squad and down into the EDS, given soft opposition.

'tis. Is it Kolo's fault? Woeful defending. Our CL killer.

We only got One(1) point from Napoli. In honesty we can't blame Kolo for the dismal performances against Napoli.

On the other hand it can be argued, perhaps Kolo's inclusion with his experience, might have stamped out the goals' leakage.

Excuse me for saying that ;)

Our loss to BM can be excused on the basis that BM as a team was superior. All our players were outplayed in every department.

We are the 5th team in CL history not to qualify with 10 points

Truth be told it could have been more than one goal!

"Remember Vincent Kompany's mis-timed lunge left striker Ezequiel Lavezzi free to run into the area and curl a delicious shot against the bar with City keeper Joe Hart well beaten"

Truth be told because of Tevez' situation at BM, IMO Kolo has been punished more than enough with his fine ( which Kolo accepted gentlemanly & not begrudgingly). But to heap the BM loss on him for City's dismal performances?

Did Kolo made glaring errors for the 2 goals? In a recent match Kolo was also make a scapegoat for VK unwise forays which left our defense exposed.

Can someone elaborate?

If only we would have won against Napoli at COMS/Etihad
But I suppose we could say if only about anything
We had the most difficult group in the whole tournament and we got 10 points which in most years and groups would have won the group, we will come back next year stronger and with more experience
