My guess would be that he's not particularly tall, and he's not especially fast.

Tall players get to challenge for the ball - faster players get to sit outside the box in case of counter attacks.
 
I think he just needs to get used to how we play, but more importantly how teams set up against us. I noticed he was stood still asking for the ball and Foden didn't play it to him. He needs to move, it's okay staying in one place when there isn't 11 men behind you, but when there is there needs to be a bit of movement.

It'll come.

It was one game against a Moroccon team and he's been at City about a week.

I doubt his role of marking the keeper has been set in stone for the season ahead.

Yeah he was the vocal point in Lyon so he isn’t used to that.
 
Im either blind or we have no performance thread for Cherki:)

There should be since Cherki has already made his debut. I’m surprised by the reception of his debut. There’s a general sense of mild disappointment, ratings like 5.5/10, etc. Cherki, considering it was his first match under special circumstances and timing, was well above average.

A few misplaced passes, but apart from that, he was with the team. He fought, participated in several successful plays:

1) Cherki played a nice one-touch triangle with Foden and Savinho, which led to Foden scoring a moment later,
2) we had a nice counterattack, practically a 3-on-1; Savinho had Omar on the left and Cherki making a run on the right — if Savinho had passed to Cherki instead of Omar, the lone defender wouldn't have been able to handle the situation,
3) its Cherki, who played a perfect ball to Foden, who had a sitter — Cherki should’ve had an assist, instead I have feeling that nobody noticed its been Cherki with very good pass just in front of penalty box,
4) Cherki pressed the goalkeeper, who played a poor pass to the defender — Doku intercepted and went 1-on-1.

I don’t know what people expected, but to me, he was better than what one could reasonably hope for given the overall circumstances. Keep it up, Rayan!

A total flop already if you bother with social media, the newspapers etc. Ffs he's been here about two weeks and played a friendly against a Morrocan side but he's suddenly utter shit because he wasn't involved much.
Full of poison is social media, and our equally shitty journalists like to fan the flames as well
