It wasn't good, but one thing is for sure: after he and Doku went off, it was a complete void. The game was over as soon as they were substituted. Newcastle were so happy to see us making a thousand passes from left to right and right to left without creating any imbalance or eliminating any defenders, neither with dribbling (Doku) nor passing (Cherki). All creativity vanished.

The first lesson to be learned right now is that if we're in a situation where we need to score a goal, he and Doku have to be on the pitch, and of course Haaland, that goes without saying.

I think that is too early to say. We’ve kept Savio and Doku for more than one year so unlikely we’ll ditch him so soon

He’s got something, is it good enough? Who knows

But he needs to settle in and the last 2 games haven’t exactly helped him. I wouldn’t have started him today, it didn’t smell like a game that would suit him

There are definitely Taarabt/Ben Arfa vibes to him, but it’s very early days and it’ll be interesting to see if he can meld himself to Pepball.

If he can, we have a hell of a player on our hands.

If he can’t, we have an option off the bench to try to unlock games later on that we’re struggling in.

Fantastic ability, and I'm a big fan but gives the ball away too easily with little flicks that don't come off leading to counter attacks. Needs to get hold of the ball and cut out the fancy Dan stuff especially in tough away games.

We'll be better off just telling this lad to stay in the oppositions half at all times. He's trying to help the team defensively but he just doesn't have a defensive bone in his body. If we can get him the ball early in space on counters he'll scythe through opposition defences.

He won't stop the tricks and flicks, sometimes they won't come off, we need to be ready to cover for it when they don't. When they do come off he'll create lots of chances for us. If we are going to allow Cherki the responsibility to be creative and try things off the cuff we have to accept there will be times when he loses possession in a poor area.

Way over the top, Newcastle away is a tough fixture for every single side in the world and we weren't awful at all. Fine margins and referee calls went against us and we lost a tough away game by a single goal. Man up. I thought I was a flapper. Christ.

Hes got exceptional vision for playing a pass through the lines, unfortunately Phil had an off day.
Hes not played 10 games yet and hes been written off already by some.
It wont be Arsensal beating us to the title it will be PGMOL !

Arsenal are a very very good side and coming second to them would be no embarrassment. We have a young side in transition, I'm happy with what's being built and it's going in the right direction. After Brighton I was very concerned but I've seen enough since to know we'll be alright. And if those tarquins hit a rough patch and the word 'bottle' starts being chucked about we'll be right there to take advantage.

I don't think we can churn out a 90+ point season at this point though so we'll need Arsenal to drop off a little.

No worries about Cherki whatsoever. He's mustard. I've known it for years. Least of my concerns.

Lose to Tottenham - “we always get beat by these”
Lose to Brighton - “tough place to go”
Lose to Villa - “tough place to go”
Lose to Newcastle - “tough place to go”

We’ve only won 2 away games this season and we’ve lost a third of our games. It’s piss poor. Of course people are going to be annoyed.

Not the right way to think about it but if someone is kicking you every 5 minutes to no punishment then it's not exactly shocking if you down tools.

Our only other midfielder, Lewis, wasn’t even included in the squad, and two of our more physical ‘midfielders’ are now functioning as fullbacks. Cherki, Foden, and Doku need protection in such games, especially when the officials offer none, and that’s the area of the team that needs strengthening.
