10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Two of those Newcastle three were signed from the teams Cherki and Reijnders played for, so it can't have been that much of a shock
I did not suggest it would be a shock. I said he will not have encountered a midfield three as good and as physical as them. There is a difference between encountering players individually, and as a collective.

He is any good?
I said after the Spurs game that he’s small, fat and can’t run

He can’t do anything about being small, he seems to have lost *some* weight but I’ve still not seen him run

He's one of those you need to build a midfield around. Playing two of Gonzalez, Rodri and Kovacic would compensate for his lack of pace and physicality, but playing Foden or Reijnders next to him in front of Gonzalez is suicide.

Put it this way he will not be 10 percent as creative as kdb was. Atm he is not good enough but he has potential .

Have people never watched videos of this guy?.He is spectacular, insanely gifted and potentially the best player in the world under the right manager, hopefully that will be Pep if he gets his act together.

No, I’ve never watched a highlight package of him or any other player we buy

I like to wait and see what they deliver for us. And so far, for some good reasons, he hasn’t done that much

I like this lad, he seems naturally gifted and makes things happen. I feel a successful City side of the last 12 years has had a player that "makes things happen".

His drop in form is being massively over blown, and simply coincides with a couple of bad results. I do agree he could do with working a bit harder but no doubts on his attacking ability. Will be a big star i think.

He was brilliant against Liverpool. Newcastle played a very aggressive game that caught everyone out & he should still have had an assist.

He's not going to be a 7 or 8 out of 10 every game. Sometimes he'll be useless, that's kind of the deal we bought into.

If we get a lot of 9 or 10s out of him we're flying

From what I remember

He came on around the 75th minute for our first match of the season at Wolverhampton and scored a goal.

He made his first start against Tottenham but was substituted before the hour mark; he was disappointing.

Then he was injured and out for two months.

He returned against Everton, playing five minutes at the end of the match, and he gifted Haaland a golden opportunity, which he missed in a one-on-one with Pickford.

Then he came on against Villarreal for five minutes before stoppage time.

Then he came on in the 77th minute against Aston Villa.

Then he started the match against Swansea for the second time this season after more than two months out, and he rescued us with an assist and a goal.

Three days later, he started against Bournemouth and provided two assists for Haaland.

Then, he came on against Dortmund for the last 10 minutes and scored a goal.

Then he was in the starting eleven against Liverpool and he wasn't bad, but he came off in the 53rd minute.

He started the match against Newcastle and came off in the 77th minute; he should at least have an assist if Foden doesn't waste this clear chance.

He came on against Leverkusen and played 25 minutes, a decent appearance where he tried to make things happen.

He played 11 matches, only 5 as a starter: 4 in the Premier League (Tottenham, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Newcastle) and one in the Carabao Cup against Swansea.

In total, he played 423 minutes, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists (he could have had 2 or 3 more).

For a new player returning from injury, I think he's doing quite well.

And he’s only 22.

We hadn’t signed any of the following midfielders at 22 years old: Elano (was 26), David Silva (24), Milner (24), Yaya (27), Nasri (24), De Bruyne (24), Gündoğan (26), Bernardo Silva (23)…

Loads of time for Cherki to develop yet.

No because that is what "edits" make you.

I've watched him live in games, at the moment he looks unfit, and sometimes uninterested, he might be a great player for us eventually, but right now doesn't merit being in the starting 11 for me.

The stats for Cherki is in fact very good (4 goals and 4 assists in 545 minutes)View attachment 176072

Goals and Assists per 90, all comps:

1. Haaland = 1.29
2. Cherki = 1.27
3. Doku = 0.57
4. Foden = 0.52

Obviously the others have played double/triple the minutes.

(My table does not include the Club world Cup, so 425 mins in 11 appearances)

One thing he definitely wasn’t is brilliant against Liverpool. He was average at best in a very good team performance
