10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Very interesting post match presser from the bald fella. Playing Cherki's performance down comparing it to a friendly and saying hes had a lot of good players in his career who can do the good stuff but if they dont do their job for the team there's no hope (or words to those effect). Then seems to make a big point on Savinho

Could have had five assists today, Silva, Dias, Haaland, Foden, and Reijnders, and maybe even a sixth if he’d squared to Marmoush. Said before he arrived that he’ll put it on their plates.

once upon a time i said that leroy sane could be ballon d'or one day.sadly he made bad decisions and imo never lived upto his talent. Cherki is now at the same stage. He can do it all. An immense talent, he just needs to find his role. If he gets that the rest is history in the making

Probably keeping Cherkis feet on the ground cos I dont think confidence is an issue for him whereas savinho looks to be at rock bottom and could do with a boost.

That's the impression I get, that and focus on the hard work & teamwork aspects. Bet inside though, Pep is loving how Cherki is managing to marry up the pausa & being a menace in the final third

I said to my mates a few weeks ago that Cherki reminds me of Ali Bernabia in the way he plays. Some way to go yet, but he's neat and tidy on the ball, exceptionally skilful, can put chances on a plate and can finish too. He seemed to be a bit more pacey today, and if he can add to his work rate he could be a real star for us. Maybe he could even be the "young Ali B" that we never got to see. Now that would be something !

He is going to have to learn, as pep has famously said the only player he will excuse is messi, and rayan is not messi. He isn't even KdB. He will need to learn how to press and defend like all the others, i.e. halaand who is now excellent when pressing/defending.
That will come with time.

Funnily enough, the way he moves with the ball reminds me of Messi. And no, I'm not saying he's as good as the GOAT, and I'm not saying he ever will be. But he has that low centre of gravity that makes him nigh on impossible to dispossess.

He'll be the best player in England once he's fully acclimatized.

I do think Pep's right. Cherki gets his head down he can be a great, instead of a Neymar.

"I never saw Messi play a cross like he has done," said Guardiola. "Messi is the best player to play the game but I never saw these kind of crosses.

"Crosses are fine, right or left or which part of your feet, it doesn't matter. If it is effective, it is fine, but I like the simplicity because I learned from Messi that I never make a mistake with the simple things.

"The simple things he does perfectly, then he dribbles past four or five players. I want players to do the simple things well and after that you have special talent and he can do whatever he wants.

"But if he doesn't work now, it will be a problem. He will be in trouble.
"

Pep’s comments sound quite negative especially if compared to his comments on Sav. Sounds like maybe he wants Cherki to stop the tricks and get the basics right but can’t see what he’s basing that on? Is it just the w way it’s been reported I haven’t had chance to watch the presser yet
