If he can keep his misplaced (turn over) flicks to a minimum, and his chances created to the levels he is currently showing, and throw in a goal of two, plus a few sprints to get back behind the ball, and he could be the best find of his generation.

Yes, I know that’s a big sentence…literally and figuratively!

How many players can hug the right wing and decide to play almost exclusively with their left foot, then run across the park to take corners, and slip Haaland in between two defenders with their right foot? No others I can think of.

If we’d gone with that kind of logic with misplaced passes KDB wouldn’t have been half the player he was

There is a qualitative difference between flick and a 20-30 yard threaded pass, and I love them both. However, when we commit players and a back heel or outside of the boot flick doesn’t come off, it doesn’t help if the Boss thinks you don’t recover and defend, either.

I have zero desire to fence him in, but at present, we need solidity in all areas of the field. His creativity is second to none, but we can’t afford “creative” turnovers if we’ve committed six, seven, or eight players forward. That said, his output speaks for itself, so it might be a case of having to accept the rough with the smooth!

It should be possible to coach the daft stuff out of him. Nobody will criticise him for trying something that doesn't work when we are close to their goal. In more open play though, he still risks a great deal at times through an ill timed flick or back heel where the chance of real reward is very small. That is the stuff he needs to stop. Its noticeable that the more tired he gets the more flicks he tries. I love watching him but I do have a little concern that at some point there will be a clash of wills between him and Pep.
 


Imagine 2nd season Cherki. If he doesn’t get any major injuries we could be looking at a Palmer-Esque explosion.
