1000 City goals at The Etihad

Michael Johnson goal was a cracker also v Villa/Derby? Swapped passes with a couple of players and then smashed it into the corner. So exciting to see an academy player who made it look so easy.
I actually came to post this one.

We’d not scored at home for over 8 months at that point, the last being on New Years Day and this being first home game in August.

I’d relocated to 116 behind the goal, in the South Stand.

When that goal went in it went ballistic near me. I ended up in a completely different seat.

To win a game at home and it score felt so exciting after the shite Pearce served up.

Turns out Derby were the worse PL ever but didn’t know it at the time.

It was eclipsed a week after when Geovanni bagged the winner against Utd.

The first half of that season was great. So much optimism after the opening day win at Upton Park. There was a great mix of homegrown talent (Richards, Onuoha, Johnson, Ireland, Schmeichel) and the exciting new signings (Petrov, Elano, Bianchi, Bojinov, Geovanni, Garrido, Corluka). Was so refreshing after the Pearce era had sucked all the joy out of watching City.

I wonder how quick this is compared to other teams in new stadiums, I would image it is one if not the highest number of goals over these number of games against other prem teams

The whole season ended up being bitter at the end with Thaskins totally disgraceful treatment of Sven.

It was the best season for years, in terms of how we’d played and league position.

I just try and forget everything that happened after the 2nd derby.

Which again, was an epic day.

Very bittersweet memory for me this one. My dads last game. He died around 2 months later and the Reading game mentioned (Ireland) was my first one without him. Just me and my son and an empty seat next to us. It was a tough day that one.

I had actually forgot that was the season after Pearce and subconsciously that is also probably a reason it resonated with me so much.

The year before was so depressing, culminating with Vassels penalty miss against them lot in the final home match.

Geovanni winner the following week capped of a great start to the season. Out of interest can you remember the keeper in net flapping at crosses and who nearly gave them lot an undeserved equaliser?
