11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

I'd like to know how quick he is over a longer distance, though.
There are times, near the halfway line, when I'm crying out for him to just knock it into the space behind and take off, but he's never tempted.

The assist vs Villa showed good pace over 30 yards or so.

The ability he has with his control and acceleration in tight spaces, for me I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before, certainly not in the way he does it.

There’s not a defender in the world he couldn’t beat on his day and now he’s starting to make the right decisions once he’s beat his man, or men.
Aina has always been a problem. But bo one else comes to mind.

My issue with him has always been on it appearing like he'd beat his man and then think about what to do next. Now he looks like there's a clear strategy in his head and his decision making is a lot better. He's so hard to deal with in this current form and it's great to watch.

Remember this?

However here are two problems with his long distance running, first that hes not a stamina monster so he simply cant do it often. And second that he basically has two gears that he can shift very quickly. He doesnt keep accelerating over long distance, he reaches top speed quickly and then its predictable because while decent its not exactly Mbappe level. Its more about timing than just running with Doku.

Yeah agree. That’s why as Pepsi now saying getting him central more is key and makes him so much more dangerous. We rarely get him the space to go one v one when put wide. From say 40 yards very few would catch him because of the distance they’d have to make up after the first 15. As you say though he’s not like an Mbappe or even Haaland if it’s a straight run over 50/60 yards. Very rare that’s important anyway.

He just needs to improving his decision making and be encouraged to go at defenders as centrally and with that his confidence should become sky high. As many have always thought he’s got the natural ability to become a very special player. No doubt though if he has a couple of average games as most flair players do there will be plenty saying he’s shite again. :)

I'm one of his biggest critics, but it must be recognized that in the derby and yesterday, he clearly influenced the outcome of the match. With Bernardo on the right, Doku remains our only hope of destabilizing a defense on the wings, and it's a little unfair to him that everything rests on his shoulders. He's always facing two or three defenders.

Well done, my little one, keep it up.

I don’t think his ability to run with the ball glued to his feet and go past defenders was ever in doubt. It’s doing it in areas that hurt the opposition and decision making that was questionable. He is now drifting into central positions at the right time (that may be a pep instruction) and so far his choice of pass and his finishing is vastly improved. If he maintains that form and builds on it he is going to be a scary player. Fingers crossed.

Match commentator suggested Doku seemed to be playing with more freedom.
When Doku scored I noticed Pep immediately pointed to his new assistant and followed that with a hug, (he didn't give Kolo one!). I wonder if Lijnders is having some input.

I love him, I've always loved him and even after his next bad game, I will continue to love him.

There aren't enough 'make you get off your seat' players around these days and this lad certainly is one, I love that nobody (probably even himself) knows what he's going to do next.
You've got my vote. Sadly underrated by many fans in my opinion but he's kept a £100 million player out of the team and now out of the squad completely, that must tell you something.

Can't understand those who criticize him for not being able to get past 4 defenders and find a player in the middle who isn't there most of the time.

It's for the latter reason I don't understand the criticism most of the time. Nobody else in the team is ever berated for not managing to beat three players, he does it regularly then ends up with nobody to cross the ball to. If he had a bit more support, more players closer to him as seems to be happening more now we would see far more end product from him.

I think people also forget that he's still only 23.

this new found tactic seems to have helped him ,moving into the middle, i've always though he looks our most dangerous player, im sure oppo fans dread him being on the team sheet, keep up the good work think it will help him he looks like a regular starter for the team at the moment , he needs to keep that form up though.

Hes another player some are waiting to have a bad game to pile on though.
Wonder if a similar tactic would have got better out of Grealish more consistently?

His initial burst of speed is more useful inside the box, nobody can catch him there, and if they do, they’ll likely trip him and concede a penalty.

The thing is you let him try stuff from the middle and he will inevitably lose more balls while hes trying. And this is obviously a cardinal sin in Pep system and fans are by now in line with that basically counting turnovers as a bad thing. I think thats the reason why hes stuck as wide as he is, from there he gets more clear choices whether to dribble inside, outside or just pass it back. From the middle its more chaotic and it will mean more mistakes.

You guys should seriously see Vinicius, he loses in one game the same amount of balls Doku does in 10 (well less now under Xabi than under Ancelotti but an absolute turnover machine still)
