11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

There is literally no winger pair out there on that level. Not even 1 current winger out there is Ribéry or robben level. Maybe you should accept that this is a different time
Agree 100% - Robbery was a unique combination of two of the world best players.

I offered my remark as aspirational. Aim for perfection. If you fall short, but very close, you're very, very good.

Whereas, if you aim for mediocrity - you'll surely realize your goal.

Yeah obviously but the comparison makes sense if there were enough better wingers out there. The club has to hope that those two make it. In terms of potential I don’t see many better and if they do they will play for other top clubs.

Bobb may be one such far better winger - for example.

Doku and Savinho have been disappointing so far. Maybe they'll improve. Maybe not. Meanwhile, we need to seek better alternatives - because for a side hoping to finish top of the P/L - these two aren't currently good enough.

We used to have Sterling and Mahrez - nowhere near as good as Robbery - but at least fit for purpose.

One of the ways to circumvent the shortcomings would be to pick wingers who have pace over 20 yards not feet because they are not real wingers.

The first thing a winger needs is bags of pace when they have beaten a man there is no need to do it again.

So Doku isn’t a real winger because he isn’t the fastest ?
Can u name those fast wingers with the quality for the top teams ?
I’ve seen the name of rodrygo here extremely often who is slower than both.

You're asking questions I never asked, but since you asked Doku is very much a left sided forward not a traditional winger.

Firstly you need bags of pace and secondly you know how to beat a man, pace being the most important thing.

Not when you're facing a low block... There's no space to run into. Ability to create yourself half a yard of space more important imo.

The slander Doku gets is unreal. Our one glimmer of excitement last season and one player with some decent pace who can beat a man. Guess some fans prefer sideways passers?
He’s one of my favourites - one who sometimes dazzled in a context of largely crablike football last year. Even so, the “no end product” jibe has some justification, albeit totally overplayed.

I’d love to see him develop this aspect further next season. With different players around him, why not?

I want to see serious improvement from him. 3rd season, time to shine when he plays. not sure yet how Pep is changing our tactics especially our play in wide areas.
Ait Nouri can be used as one giving width and then we can play MArmoush from left more as an inside winger. or give Doku an overllapping option which he could benefit big time as then wouldnt be 1 vs 2 or 3 situation so often for him.

either way we need to be more dynamic in our attacks.

Doku's decision making needs to improve the most and his off the ball play.

Mostly agree.

For me - Doku's weakness is that his end product is far too often shit.

It's a misplaced pass - or a shot wide/over goal - or dribbling it out of bounds.

Doku is one of the best - if not the best - player in all of football - who is able to beat a defender one-one-one - what transpires next, though, is what turns Doku from a ballon d'or winner - into someone who isn't good enough for a regular starting position in our squad.

And it's been this way from Doku for several years in a row with no visible improvement.

IMO - Doku is out of our squad in the 2026-2027 season.

But if it doesn't happen - you'll probably very much wish it were so.

Predicting the development and future of young players is hard. Nobody on here could see Rodri getting better than Ferna (me aside, ha ha). Doku might become a world beater or not, I doubt your prediction will come true though.

Not so.

I thought that Rodri was clearly world class from the start - not, perhaps best in the world - but clearly one of the best.

Doku too is easy to predict - no end product before joining us - but amazing dribbling skills - and exactly the same every single season with us - zero improvement.

There are a few outliers of course - Salah was the worst P/L player of all when at Chelsea. And somehow he became one of the best players in the world - which took me, at least - completely by surprise.

But for the most part - what you sign is what you get.

In Doku - we signed an amazing dribbler with no end product - and we got an amazing dribbler with no end product.

I'd have liked to see him come on last night to see how he'd combine with AitNouri.
Don't think they'll work best together. Or put more accurately, Ait Nouri will have to invert. As they take up a lot of the same spaces.

2 insane dribblers on the left will be something to watch though. I think Air Nouri and Omar might be a fantastic combo fit on the left.
