Apparently the Congresswoman (Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat) is critical and in surgery. Early reports were that she was killed but that's been retracted.

This will reopen the debate into the 2nd amendment. The right to bear arms is in my opinion the most outdated part of the US Constitution. However, the presence of so many Republican fundamentalists in both houses of Congress will make any kind of constitutional amendment impossible.
