12 players to leave.

Okay people, don't believe what you read in the papers. Proof below that there does not need to be a mass exodus of players. From the OS we have 39 players counting recent signing Kolarov. They are:

Goalkeepers (5)

David Gonzales, Shay Given, Joe Hart, Gunnar Nielsen, Stuart Taylor

Defenders (13)

Dedryck Boyata, Greg Cunningham, Javan Vidal, Jerome Boateng, Joleon Lescott, Wayne Bridge, Javier Garrido, Shaleum Logan, Nedum Onuoha, Micah Richards, Kolo Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov

Midfielders (13)

Abdisalam Ibrahim, Adam Johnson, David Silva, Gareth Barry, Patrick Vieira, Yaya Toure, Nigel de Jong, Kelvin Etuhu, Stephen Ireland, Michael Johnson, Vincent Kompany, Vladimir Weiss, Shaun Wright-Phillips,

Strikers (8)

Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Felipe Caicedo, Jô, Alex Tchuimeni-Nimely, Robinho, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez

There are 6 Under 21s in that 39.

Dedryck Boyata, Greg Cunningham, Abdisalam Ibrahim, Vladimir Weiss, Alex Tchuimeni-Nimely, Javan Vidal

That leaves 33 players of which 8 have to go.

Gunnar Nielsen is out on loan to Tranmere, so that knocks it down to 32, 7 of which have to go.

Michael Johnson won't be registered for the 1st half of the season as he is not fit to play for the beginning of the season which takes it down to 31, 6 of which have to go.

However, Mancini is quoted in the following articles as saying they have 30 players and need to get down to 25 and that Robinho does not want to come back.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...oor-Manchester-City-boss-Roberto-Mancini.html

That would mean that since they consider Robinho a gonner, they are only counting 30 players, of which 5 need to be cleared out. The 5 that are likely to be sold or loaned are:

1 GK likely to be David Gonzales but could be one of Hart or Given if not a regular starter.

2 DFs Shaleum Logan, Javier Garrido (though Bridge could be a possibility)

1 MF Kelvin Etuhu (could be serving a prison sentence anyway)

1 of 2 STs Felipe Caicedo or Jo

That leaves a 25 man roster of:

Goalkeepers (3)

Shay Given, Joe Hart, Stuart Taylor

Defenders (8)

Jerome Boateng, Joleon Lescott, Wayne Bridge, Nedum Onuoha, Micah Richards, Kolo Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov

Midfielders (9)

Adam Johnson, David Silva, Gareth Barry, Patrick Vieira, Yaya Toure, Nigel de Jong, Stephen Ireland, Vincent Kompany, Shaun Wright-Phillips

Strikers (5)

Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Caceido/Jo

Balotelli would be an under 21 so could be added to the squad as an under 21 for the premier league but would need to bump a player out of the team to be registered for Europa league play from what I gather.

If we were to sign Milner, then a player from the above 25 would have to be moved.

Same for each new successive signing. Not that the player positions are as the OS designates them, not as they have played or may play, such as Kompany at CB.

Yay a sensible post about who we need to get rid of. I can't understand why people are so desperate to get rid of the likes of SWP, Richards, Ireland and Bellamy when there is no need to. Its a joke really.

Edit: Just looking at that squad you have posted above fills me with optimism for the season. We really do have the strength to challenge on all fronts

Why not just loan out all our players? It's not as if we need the money and you never know?....... We might have some really great players that just need the chances to play? and then come back to us?

No place on this site for sensible, logical thoughts such as that...

We should be getting rid of the following....
Ireland - was shit last year
Adebayor - looks lazy at times
SWP - too inconsistent
Bellamy - had a couple of poor games toward end of season
Richards - falls over too much
Onuha - always injured
Viera - too old
Given - not good coming off his line

Sorted.

Adebayor
Manchester City 2009–10 - 31 games, 14 goals

And people on here wouldn't bother if he left? some of you need your heads testing! Let's buy Dean Windass (I'm sure some people on here would be happy then)

I defo will not be happy if Adebayor left! He should have least one season to show what he's got, after everything that happen to him last year its no wonder he wasn't on the best on form.

At the start of last season he was on fire! And everytime he played afterwards I was glad he was on the pitch! More than anyother player (maybe not Tevez) he needs to stay!

Add to that Boateng and Caicedo, who are both 21 at the start of the season. They qualify to play in U21 national teams so in football terms they count as under 21

which including the loan of the faroe islands goalie brings the current squad down to 30 as Mancini is quoted

Actually, no the rules for under 21 in International competition are different than those for the premier league. For International teams, a player simply needs to be aged 21 or under at the start of a two-year European Under-21 Football Championship campaign, so they could end up being 23 by the time they complete the full U-21 campaign.

For the premier league, a player has to turn 21 (or Under 21) in the year the competition begins, so the PL cutoff date for an Under 21 in the 2010/11 season is Jan 1st, 1989. Players like Boateng and Caceido who are born in 1988 wouldn't qualify as Under 21s and would need to be named as part of the 17 foreign players in the squad.

the acquisitions of Silva, Johnson, Toure and possibly Milner suggest to me Mancini is looking to adapt his midfield to be able to deliver the ball from defence into the 18 yard box. Last season there was the typical city of blasting the ball 70 yards up the pitch for Ade to fuck it up. Not how he plays. Play it to him from the wing or smart balls to crack the offside trap and Ade will destroy teams Sweeps trickery and Bellamys pace must be a nightmare when they're on top of their game but they aren't always on that, sadly. i think they'll not play so much but I do think Ade is here to stay and i hope that's the case as if could easily scope 30 with proper service from the midfield.
