12 years ago today... the 8-1

I don’t know why but I watched extended highlights of this game the other week and I was fuming again at it.Hamman, Ball, Ireland & Petrov were a disgrace in that game, losing the ball on the halfway line and walking. Ball was captain I think after dunne went off and he just had had his hands on hips, head down from about the 30th minute.
It was deliberate. They effectively went on strike in protest at Thaksin's treatment of Sven. I believe they had to be talked out of refusing to play at all so that was their response.

Crazy day, roasting on the way up, I was drinking cold water while driving.

Got within 2/3 miles of the ground and the temperature dropped about 15 degrees. Decided to change into my emergency jeans from my shorts and had another drink of water before heading to the ground....big mistake the 'cold' water was now tepid almost puked.

The game itself, Sven Sven Sven, Dunny off, fat twat Dowd doing us over, Elano best goal of the game, cops bursting for a fight ending up with some old bloke being twatted as he fell over the advertising onto the pitch.

All this and a fair play award.

we will never know how close city was sailing to the wind ?? them last couple of weeks of the season and build up to the new season and pre-season was a nightmare and the future of the club was well in the balance. some stories flying about was saying days not weeks until city could have folded Thaksin Shinawatra did not have the money in the first place and bought manchester city on loaned funds from friends on the back of the so called millions he had in thailand ? even the old chairman john wardle had to loan the club money to pay the players wages

so for me that 8.1 was a big fuck you from the players to the club. and most had little to no future at the club with it being in the balance at the time and most would have gone in the summer and city would have been in a right mess

i would have love to know how close to the wind city was really at ?? and maybe gary james the clubs researcher could shine some light on it and even the the months before the take over and the transfer window take over that changed manchester city forever

Was a cracking away day. Everyone in shorts and tshirts then we got to the lovely Middlesbrough and it was like something out of the twilight zone. Was such a funny day, made even better with the atmosphere by the City fans in the ground.

Didn't go but remember watching on TV and being more gutted about Dunney's red card than the result

The coppers were a disgrace. During play they were grouped near each corner flag and as each Boro goal went in they spread out along the perimeter behind the goal, batons drawn and basically begging a City fan to have a pop. They were really disappointed that none of us cared that much about the result, we were more worried about fair play points costing us a European place. Then when Elano scored we all started jumping about as if we'd scored the winner at Wembley and the cops decided that was the excuse they needed to wade in and start arresting City fans at random.

My Man City Andy Warhol moment...24 hours of headlines on Sky Sports News : me then the England Captain John Terry.
Didn't work though !!
