Given Stones’s chequered history, I would hate to see Laporte give up the fight. If the situation is the same a year from now, then fair enough for him to consider moving on.

a year is a long time at peak of career to be benched half the time.

Possession is nine tenths of the law, so they say. But in this case it’s fragile and Laporte would hope to get back into serious contention before then. He’s breathing hard down Stones’s neck. A drop-off in form or a few lapses on Stones’s part could soon change the pecking order.

It’s only conjecture on my part, of course, but I’d expect Laporte to have sufficient confidence to back himself in that race. And I wouldn’t expect City to sell in the next few months either. It’s going to be a tough season defending the PL title and going deep into the CL once again.

Appeasement or otherwise,it was as stupid as stupid gets.

Regards Laporte, lets just hope we get his proper value.....either in straight cash or with player involvement.

I'd definitely be pushing for FDJ as a swap.
What?????? De Jong is a possibility? Sorry folks if that's a possibility, I'm carrying Laporte's bags myself :)

No disrespect. Love FDJ to bits...

We better not be losing this guy for Sergio Roberto :( That would really stink.

wasn't there huge hype with him a few years ago i take it he never fulfilled his promise? As for laporte i think he's just too good to be on the bench were talking about probably the third best cb in the world on the bench.

I'm not sure it was hype based on talent. More so based on being a La Maria graduate. He is a jack of all trades type basic player. A poor man's Milner.

Barca rumours again,
Maybe he should put pressure on Barcelona to pay. He wants to leave doesn't want to put up a fight wants to give stupid statements before CL final wants City to sell him maybe he can tell Laporta to stump up money £70m + £10m in addons that has to be our valuation and no accepting finished garbage players like Roberto or Injured Dembele.

Given Sweden spent 89 mins in their own half,he was bound to look 'fantastic'
Yeah, yeah, yeah...

I'm referring to the few moments where he actually had to perform - he was sublime.

It's probably hard to find videos in support of his performance... did you watch the match?

I did, hence my comment.....the one moment he was properly tested, against Isak,he out muscled him (which wasn't particularly hard considering he's about 8stone wet through) well.
He has undoubtedly brought a new composure and calmness to their defence, and his passing from the back is clearly welcome.

Cheers.

I actually thought that his moment v. Isak underlined how great he is at defense - Laporte muscled the dangerous, big, attacking Isak off the ball - just as a great centerback should. Top class.

And yes - Laporte didn't have a lot to do defensively in the match - but when called upon, he was class.

And he didn't screw up the minor plays at all - passing accurately time and again.

If at all possible I hope we retain Laporte - he's a top class defensive CB. Hopefully Pep can talk to Dias, Stones and Laporte to make the obvious point that all three cannot start - and that there's so many important games in the season - that any of the three cannot possibly start throughout.

Some sort of amicable agreed-upon rotation between DIas/Stones/Laporte seems best for our side.

Hopefully Pep can arrive at such.

Behave,he did well, but at 3 stone heavier, but he was expected to.

He has pace and is dangerous, but there is more meat on a butchers apron than there is on Isak!

Isak - for me - isn't lightweight at all - he seems to be taller than Laporte. And faster than Laporte. And Isak is a a big big scoring threat.

I don't see where your comment that Laporte was "bound to be fantastic" is warranted - and thus his performance is meh.

For me- I see the exact opposite. Our 3rd choice CB against top competition in the Euros - against one of the most dangerous opponents - performed at top top level.

Laporte had - for me - a fantastic game.

Which underlines my hope that we're able to retain him next season.

Im not sure what you were watching, seriously? Sweden had 10 men behind the ball for most of the game,Spain had about 80% possession.....the defenders had very little to do.
Laporte did well in the few situations he had to,including blocking off a tall but lightweight centre forward.
