Im not sure what you were watching, seriously? Sweden had 10 men behind the ball for most of the game,Spain had about 80% possession.....the defenders had very little to do.
Laporte did well in the few situations he had to,including blocking off a tall but lightweight centre forward.
Isak is a big threat - I think you can agree with that.

It's not Laporte's fault that he had little to do defensively - Spain were dominant in possession (90+ percent I think first half... though less so 2nd half).

My point remains - Laporte - when called upon - had an excellent game - which illustrates why I value him so highly and hope that he remains in our side. The guy is world class. Idiotic that France doesn't want him in their side.
===
Finally consider this... Laporte has a physical weight advantage v. Isak... obviously.

But in a footrace, Isak is faster.

And Isak is taller too.

Isak has a number of physical advantages against Laporte.

And yet, over the 90 - against Sweden's most dangerous attacker - Laporte came through - when called upon. In spite of being slower and less tall.

You Laportes agent by any chance? Jesus Spain were heavy favourites and Sweden still had 2 great chances to score. Early days yet.

Were those 2 chances to score any fault of Laporte?

Agree though - Spain were profligate - and might well have lost. Sweden had the 2 best chances to score in the match and Spain were lucky to emerge with a draw.

Laporte is the same height as Isak (technically 1 cm taller)

If we are serious about competing in all competitions next season then we have to keep hold of Laporte. We will need Stones, Diaz, and Laporte in our squad to cover 60 plus matches. We can also play all three in a back five when required. It is crazy to let him go. Ake is not at the same level as the other three.

Ehhh I don't really blame him for wanting to leave. He probably is upset John Stones is ahead of him in the pecking order and thinks he's the better player ( I agree)

He is in in prime and finally playing for a country.. in all honesty he should be starting somewhere, he's a top 10 CB in the world imo

I think he's a better player than Stones but then Diaz & Stones is the better partnership.
Hope he stays but can understand if he doesn't want to be just squad filler

I think he was the one who lurched and sprawled on the ground when Isak took their first chance. But don't think he was one of the 3 defenders Isak juked out for Sweden's 2nd chance.

Overall it was an okay performance. Spain were mostly on the front foot.

I like Laporte and hope he stays, but this performance said nothing one way or the other.

Exactly,he'll get few easier International games.

I agree with the both of you that Laporte didn't have much to do.

But the standout moment for me, was when Isak received the ball in a very dangerous position and Laporte bullied him away - Laporte isn't faster than Isak for sure - and on the field Isak looked taller (though both are listed at 6'3"). At any rate, if Laporte screws this tackle up, it's big trouble as Isak would be away on goal - or, alternatively, Laporte would get a card and Sweden would have a free kick in a dangerous position.

Moreover - though I'd need to review the entire game to see for sure - I think Laporte performed excellently in taking up correct defensive positions - in passing - and so forth.

An excellent game - IMO.

Sometimes your side is dominant and you're rarely involved directly - such as this game. But when involved you perform excellently.

And even if you're not directly involved - the decisions you make off the ball, positioning and such, still count.

For me, going by memory, Laporte had a very good game.

It's a bit controversial though as some pundits rate Laporte's game as I do:

whereas some rate his game more along the way you two think:

Mostly though, punditry seem to think - so far as I can tell - that Laporte had a good game.
