Laporte is a great centre half but those comments last night were needless and either thoughtless or deliberately unhelpful for the squad.
No one has the right to demand more game time ("Ill see what happens between now and the end of the season")..it has to be earned...he was rightfully dropped and its up to him to get his place back.
As well as he has played for us from day one he has always seemed aloof and slightly disconnected from the fans/club..
Then there is the question of why he doesnt get picked for his country as it's certainly not down to ability.

We cant afford to have any player who is not 100% committed .....if he is unhappy then sell and go for that Kounde lad we were connected with over the summer....

If he is happy to stay and be a squad player like everyone else then thats also great as he is a fantastic player.
At this moment in time he isn't good enough to displace Stones or Dias in the starting eleven.
Get even better or get used to being out of the side Mr Laporte

If his reaction to having competition for his spot is giving cryptic comments in the media about maybe leaving then he isn’t the type of player I thought he was.

Bizarre pre-match comments tonight.

Disappointing for him to air it in public but this was always going to be inevitable. Of our four CBs you can tell he’d be the most difficult to keep happy.

You get in this side on merit though and if he can’t force his way in by the season’s end we won’t be short of suitors if he wants out. Would command a big fee also. I’d be worried about lack of cover without him mind, given Stones past injury record and Ake’s so far this season.

Should look at Stones' attitude as at no point did he say he ever wanted to leave City when he was out of the team. One the contrary he actually said he wanted to stay at City for the rest if his career.

Sam Lee mentioned it a few times on the city podcast on the athletic. Basically along the lines of, Pep is very interested to see what Laportes reaction is to being dropped or even played out of position. So far it had been said it wasn't great but he did put him on against WBA and started last night so its clearly not a bad situation as such. If Laporte wants to move on then good luck to him.

Still a vital part of our squad , he is better than Koubailly and a few others touted around at £50m/£60m , the formation we played against Burnley was interesting a back three when attacking and reverting to a back four when defending. Top quality player who has done nothing to illustrate his quality has dropped , and would walk into any team in europe.

Looked okay last night, couple of passes through the lines but clearly doesn't seem confident enough at the moment to hit his trademark switch passes. Unfortunately he adds very little going forwards at LB, Zinchenko on the other hand keeps the ball moving well up there and understands his role perfectly. Laporte also still looks a bit off the pace, understandable but that will only come with games.

This is why its not sustainable to have 4 quality options at the back or any position.

They will just fuck off because why ride the bench here when you can go and play regularly for someone else?

He has a contract until June 2025

He better works hard like Stones and compete for a his position instead of threatening the club.
Get real

Clubs and managers have zero power these days. If you get benched, its see you later basically.
Danilo, Sane did the same.

Totally agree mate. We had the same problem when we had aguero, dzeko, tevez and balotelli up front.
Still not sure why we signed Ake for that reason but I guess Pep didn’t anticipate Stones doing what he’s currently doing when we signed him.

The formation was interesting. But we were a bit ropey. Both John and Dias looked ever so slightly weaker...

If he becomes as good a LB as he is a CB, that back 4 is fucking disgustingly good.
He can’t really as he’s not quick enough. Brilliant player nonetheless and at times that 3 at the back is a good way of getting him game time.

Would be interesting to see if Pep plays those tactics against the "better" sides , i thought we looked solid against Burnley , the latter stages of the Champs league will be the test

I wondered if the formation v Burnley was a rehearsal for Sunday?

He’s used Laporte as a LB against the scouse a couple of times. The 2-1 at home in 18/19 our back line was Danilo-Stones-VK-Laporte. He will want a physical presence tucked in on the left to combat Salah.

Couldn’t have said it better. Disappointing comments from him.
