14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

My worry with Nico is his passing is not good enough to play that role. I hope he can develop that because his reading of the game is very good.
Defensively, i think he is more intense than Rodri ( or should i say I like him more) its the on the ball part that's kinda weak.

Sometimes i can't tell if im looking at him or Dias coz they both hesitate on the ball a bit too much for my liking. :(

But i really like his defensive presence and press. The actual passing isn't bad. Its just often the safe and predictable option. Which can set us back into that pass for passing sake doldrum we sometimes fall into.

Decent enough today. He did that drag back at least 3 times in the first half

I think he falls in to a category like a few players do - if the team was settled he’d look better

I agreed with you on these points Dax. I have been pleasently surprised by hus defensive abilities. He also has a really good shot on him. It is just his passing is not up to our usual standards for a DM under pep. It is more in the mould of Fernando.

Hope he develops and proves me wrong but it is hard carrying to players who are weak and pedestrian on the ball like him and Dias.

Reads the game well and keeps things ticking over, but I think he's a little too passive in how he plays.

I'd like to see him be a little more aggressive on the ball.
He is a ball winner tho. Won all of his ground duels and all of his aerial duels today. I'd like to see him play alongside Rodri at some point to give us more options.

Looks massively lightweight to Me, just looks for an easy ball too often, needs to be much braver. I really hope he does well but the drop off in quality when Rodri doesn't play is terrifying.
When i think of light weight, 8 think not physical enough. But it seems you meant 'nor brave enough ' with his passes.

He is plenty physical, and not lightweight at all. But, yeah he should pass a little quicker every now and then. Even the sideways pass can be done quicker to move things faster.

I know, mate, and he's good at it. I'm just talking about the next level for him.

I was at the game yesterday and thought he was excellent and certainly one of our top performers. Broke play up well, was calm on the ball and kept us ticking over nicely. The best compliment I can pay him was that he played a lot like Rodri.

Yeah, was really good over the 90 minutes. He's getting better game on game for me. Feel like we genuinely have cover for Rodri and a player who can allow us to rest Rodri. Hopefully he starts against Monaco too and Rodri comes back in for Brentford.

Pep's influence on him is really starting to show...

2 solid performances in a week. Hope we finally get to see him alongside Rodri vs Monaco. I just know it's going to be a dynamite midfield 2 but Pep seems absolutely determined not to use it.

Rewatched the game and thought he was really good. Very active out of possession and progressed the ball well between the lines. Liked his clipped pass to set Doku off on a counter as well.

He’s finally showing improvement. Signs Phillips or Nunes did not show after 6 months.

Just needs a run of games, his decision making will get better. Good game against Burnley, important for him to be ready for these games at the very least so Rodri is rested or rotated.
