14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Having a "long legs" DM is just so valuable to nick the ball and stop counters.

He still has some ways to go, but his physique is so incredibly suited to the role.

Lads a bit of a tough nut as well. Love watching him drive forward. Still not there yet but all the signs of him being a great player

Would like to see him play more passes between the lines, still our only DM outside of Rodri so he should start every game until Rodders if fully fit.

Pep characterised him as fundamental.

IMO, to play both Foden and Cherki Pep will have to make sure that we are solid defensively. To this end, he may need to play both Rodri and Gonzalez, and perhaps Khusanov at RB.

Yeah the I’m only worried about Cherki in he tries a lot of passes tricks to open up a defence and losing the ball a lot which I like players to try these things like Kdb did!

He needs to be starting every game. Get him off when games are won at 3 nil but otherwise he's playing until Rodri is 100%. Rodri needs to be eased back this time so let Nico keep his spot. If Rodri starts let's have a 3 of Nico-Rodri/Silva-Foden/Cherki until he's up to speed. Reijnders can be eased back in gradually.

Great to see him starting to show his ability now with a run of games, and very encouraging to see Pep publicly praising him. A reminder that patience is required with young players in a new league. Think there’s a place for him in the team even when Rodri is back - he’s more than just an understudy now.

Brilliant performance last night. Was defensively solid, getting a foot in or being in the right place. He was always showing for the ball and playing some incisive passes forwards plus has that acceleration to carry it into space.

One thing he needs to do a bit more is spread the ball wide. Rodri is so good at the switch of play wide left or right to get the winger in behind.

Except for the fact that Nico G. isn't really a DM and was purchased a stop-gap at DM... and that he has never had spectacular performances - world class - for our side.

Nico is a squad player - who regularly starts because Rodri is perpetually injured.
He's not standing in the way of anyone, he is a gap filler as Rodri and Kova are out, and trust me, you know this as well as I do, when we DO replace some of the mentioned you believe will leave, they will be better than this guy, not his fault he ain't up to it, Barca trained or not, but you sometimes have to face facts when someone doesn't fit the bill, we have seen enough to decide this, but no doubt I will see some more to either confirm it or be proven wrong.

Myself,by the way, isn't and never have been part of the "masses", I just know football well enough to see when we have a good un on our hands, and he's just not cutting it for me at present one bit, believe me when I say I have witnessed enough shit in a blue shirt over the years, so I would consider myself a pretty good judge

But I will bear in mind his " Barca trained "and the fact he is 23, not that it will count for much in the end
Still think he's shit and ill suited boys or do you want to wait for another array of important performances before you admit you have no idea what you're on about?

The expression "aging like fine wine" suits him well.

The more minutes tick by in the match, the better he gets.
