14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

No idea why people were doubting him. The fundamentals are clearly there - there's very little chance that a La Masia trained DM working with Pep/Xavi is going to fail.
Some players are just easier on the eye.

Nico may look clunky at times, but he wins his duels, scans the pitch better than most and can break the lines with passing and dribbling.

In general, if our 6 looks like they’re immobile or out of position, it’s generally because the system is creaking and they’re isolated.

It’s the same with Bernardo. If he doesn’t connect with our system, he looks awful, without doing anything differently.

He downloaded the 360° Spatial Awareness pack. He went from a Rodri back up to a Rodri competitor in the space of a month. Every part of his game has improved. His passing range, passing between lines, positionally, tempo, vision. Well done to him. I still think him and Rodri have to play together in a pivot, that's our best midfield base available.

I had loads of doubts about him even during pretty decent early performances. Mainly due to the odd rushed touch or miscontrolled pass that I put down to a lack of scanning or awareness.

Well that's all changed now. Not sure what - or whether he's just a quick learner, or there is more consistency around him, but he's gone up a couple of levels.

There is a risk he could become my favourite player if he keeps this up.

Yet if Nico becomes half the player Bernardo Silva has been for us then there is some nice hope to look forward to

Invaluable right now. Really clicked for him and he's improving by the game. Might find himself in the Spanish squad if this form continues, him alongside Rodri in a 2 man pivot could be the future for both us and Spain.
Wasnt long go he was usually the first subbed off. Not anymore. Got to think Pep is delighted with how he's developing. Clearly a very coachable player. Now we need a Nico back up. He's playing a lot more

Yes he's really developed that awareness. He now has a 20yrd radius but you see when Rodri comes on he has a 40yrd radius. Still room for improvement but he's headed in the right direction and I've no doubt he will get there.

Excellent, especially in the first half, he intercepted and recovered countless balls. After an hour of play, we sensed some fatigue, which is understandable; he was playing his third match in seven days after playing the full 90 minutes against Swensea and then Bournemouth.
