14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Can’t wait for him to be back to full fitness. Maybe we see Rodri Nico G midfield start today?

Yeah a slow , timid midfield against one of the fastest teams in the league.
Just my opinion, there are downsides to any midfield we have available at the moment.

At least they’d offer protection for the back 4.

It’s not a hill I’m ready to die on, just a passing comment…

Break up play well but cowardly when our keeper or back 4 are looking for an option . Probably the worst thing a 6 can do (or doesnt do)

Probably still stood out in the middle thinking about making a pass.

I had a lot of sympathy for Nico earlier in the season because it felt like most weeks he was a one-man midfield. However, watching him and watching Rodri is like night and day.

I don’t think Nico is a bad player, far from it but he has some horrible traits. The main one being how long it takes him to do anything when he has the ball at his feet. It needs to be instant control, get his head up and move it. Instead it’s control, touch, touch, touch, touch, touch and then pass backwards. It is fine to pass backwards, Rodri does it quite a lot. However Rodri gets it and its control and pass, forward, backwards, it doesn’t matter, he just does it.

Nico will never be anything more than Rodri’s back up, and then ultimately the back up of Rodri’s replacement, if he doesn’t start doing things quicker.

He's like the poor version of Javi Garcia.....he's a Wolves/W.Ham/Leeds/Forest player....not a European chasing team. Like everyone....I hope he comes good, but it's ridiculous how some have convinced themselves he will.....O'Reilly is a level above in m/f.

Dreadful today. Doing everything in slow motion. He is not an elite player and City needs better players in midfield if they want to compete with the best teams in Europe. Especially in terms of moving the ball quicker. Two number 8. Like Anderson or Kone from Roma, Barrios from Atleti etc. He can stay, but he is not a starting option for me in this team.

I can’t tell if Rodri has been playing very well and it’s making Nico look pretty rubbish in comparison or if he’s just been had the player since that injury. I guess he’s not been back long but I had dreams they’d both play at their best together.

Both are slow. They are not complementary at all. It wouldn't work. Rodri needs more dynamic partner around him, just like Nico. City needs two number 8 in the summer to replace Silva and Kovacić. Just go and do some proper midfield overhault because any sporting director did it properly for ages. City is still into late-Begiritain's mess. Players like Grealish, Phillips or Akanji are still on our payroll.

I'd first like to see O'Reilly in midfield with Foden and Reijnders in their current form, not with Rodri and Silva. Then I'll be able to assess how good he is.

Decent backup player but I don't think he has what it takes to be a starter of City's caliber.

Seemed to make our midfield tepid/ languid after Omar's goal was ruled out for offside. Maybe it affected him personally??'

Maybe too emotional? -- not a good sign for a starter!
