had Bernardo to run round for him and was playing a bunch of cloggers who couldn't run past him, so he was fine. Good little effort in the first half.

Credit where it’s due he was very good today but make no mistake this is an isolated game.

He’s performed like this every time we play Burnley too, against long ball teams that don’t rely on pace and mobility but look to strength and aerial prowess he excels but Peps largely seen off that kind of football in this country now.

I expected a good showing from him today the second I realised that was going to be their tactics, he did that and more but it in no way fixes his glaring weaknesses which will be back on display the next time we don’t play a target man side.

I was wrong, he does play better when he has runners around him.

I'm still concerned how he'd fare against a team that presses but he's much better with Bernardo around him.

I got told many times that he shouldnt need legs around him to play well, they all need good players nextto them to let them play , gaz and nige did the same
And they were all correct. In a position where countering the counter is a huge part of his game then no he shouldn’t rely on others to provide the legs, it should be the opposite way around if anything and it shouldn’t really even be that.

Bernardo playing in place of Gundogan was not the reason why Rodri had a good game, it was the Sheffield United game plan that planned into his strengths perfectly that saw him put in an impressive performance

Barry and De Jong is an utterly pointless comparison, entirely different sides and tactics, may as well compare the 3 Liverpool cloggers to our needs in that position, but I will point out I don’t recall too many energetic performances from Yaya who they both had around them.

Looks to be a bit more at it to me, intensity seems to be rising. Hopefully it's a sign of him adapting to the prem and we can see more from him but he'll have bigger tests than today

But neither of them were fast/ pacey , dinho is the only fast one we have had there in recent times , the workhorses need fast players around them . Rodders minus gundy means he has the space and encouragement to do better things with the ball, i am probably not explaining it well or it could be bollocks lol

Top class . Just one of those players people will criticise regardless of performance

And others people will always want to play regardless of performances

I am a huge fan of Rodri since the first game, but it's funny how people rate him after the match - depending on the result :D

If we win - Rodri gets higher rates, for example one of ManCity twitter pages rated him as 8/10 today.
If we loose - Rodri is the worst player that has ever played for ManCity. Same twitter page rated him as 3/10 last week.

For me, he is the most stable player and every match he performs nearly at the same level. There is nothing spontaneous in his game and those long shots aren't surprises as well - because we know that he scores from that distance.. That's why I like this player - because he brings the stability and when you have many players like that - you have more chance to win such difficult marathons like PL and for the manager it's bigger gift - because he knows what to expect. For example there is the different situation with Mahrez.

Of course he is not and never will be Fernandinho - but who is ? How can we buy Fullback in 4-5 years like Kyle Walker ? These are "once in a generation" players and it's obvious that another Kyle Walker won't happen.

But still - Rodri is great and we should be happy to have him..
