Rodri has homogenised the fluid DM midfield role almost single handedly, a role that Fernandinho was so accomplished at. We have basically spunked 62 mil on a Spanish carthorse. May as well saved the money and played Stones as a DM and that's saying something! Rodri is not the answer and never will be. And if Guardiola perseveres with a player bereft of pace and ability to cut out danger in a flash it will be a big part of Pep's undoing. I'd even put money on 35 year old Fernandinho giving Rodri a 10m start in a 100m and still beating him.

That would be an interesting race. To be fair I think I'd back Fern to win too.

I actually think Rodri is a good player ,I think in the right system he would be an asset .
Say in 4 2 3 1 with another defensive minded midfielder beside him .
I’m sure he’d be great for someone like mourinho.
I just think his deficiency’s are brutally exposed in our system where he is the sole number 6 designated to cover loads of ground on his own .
Fernandinho was brilliant at it , his athleticism was amazing , he covered every blade of grass , read the game brilliantly, last ditch tackles/clearances in the box .
He was the best in the world for me in them two seasons when we won the league back to back .
The bizarre thing for me is we tried to sign Jorginho to replace him , another Rodri type player , great on the ball , but lacks athleticism, who I think would of been exposed like Rodri is in our system .
And then they failed so we signed Rodri .
It’s obviously peps type of player he likes in that position.
I guess because they may be similar to busquets.
Maybe in Spain Rodri would be fine as a sole number 6 , in the prem though , where all midfielders are pretty much athletic and fast , he’s being ruthlessly exposed .
I have some sympathy for him .
We either need to replace him though with someone who has the athletic capabilities to cover all the space the number 6 needs to defend in our system .
Or we need to change the system .
Otherwise these problems conceding goals on the break aren’t going anywhere.

I don't care what Fernandihno "WAS" accomplished at. As was obvious from my post, "current" meaning present tense... Current Fernandihno can't tie his boots. That's just a fact.

So whatever Rodri is, Fernandihno is less at this moment in time.

I can't get the sight of an almost jogging Harry Kane running away from a full out Rodri, late on in the game. There's slow, then there's really fucking slow.
