Think Rodri could easily score 10 plus goals a season if he we let him loose. Equally think he could be dropped into the back four on permanent basis and play the stones role if only we had someone to cover as DM on same level. Think thats what we might have seen if we had signed Declan Rice (albeit he is not at that level yet).

Rodri is currently on 7 yellow cards. If he gets three more he will get a 2 game suspension. I'm hoping we're already planning for this scenario because we can't afford to have him suspended for two premier league games during our run in.

32nd game is the cut off for 10 cards. Which means he needs to avoid 3 yellow cards in his next 12 games to avoid a 2 game suspension. That's basically impossible at this point. We saw what happens without him and we've got a stupidly difficult run of fixtures in March slap bang in the middle of where hes on course to be suspended at his current rate of accumulating cards.

the club should be looking to engineer the best possible time to serve that inevitable suspension but also allow enough time so that he doesn't end up with 15 and a further suspension after that.

If he got 3 yellows in his next 3/4 games he would be suspended for either chelsea and brentford at home or brentford at home and bournemouth away.

After that, picking up his 3rd yellow during games 5-10 would see him suspended for at least one and probably two of the games against united, liverpool, arsenal or villa which would be disastrous for us. The absolute worst case scenario and it currently seems the most likely.

Club should be looking at this really carefully. If he enginered it so he took the ban against brentford and bournemouth, could he then make it to the end of the season without reaching 15 cards and getting a 3 match ban too? Not sure he could personally, that would be 12 games after his second ban to avoid 5 bookings and atmost of those games are big games. But then again, we've got a much easier run in on paper than feb/march/april and there's the possibility one way or another that the last few games might be meaningless anyway be that because we've won the league or another team has.

Personally, I'd instruct him to pick up those yellows, sit out brentford and bournemouth and make sure there's no chance of missing the crucial games against the top 4/rags through yellow card accumulation.

Things might change if we get a capable backup this window but that appears really unlikely right now.

Fucking joke that FIFA11..

But I was recounting when Yaya started to attack more and score some amazing goals.
In 10/11 Yaya was 27 years old, Rodri is 27 years old now and as I look, I don't see that many differences between them. I mean 27 years old Yaya and 27 years old Rodri - attacking wise.

As for defensively and in midfield, Rodri is much much better. Imagine if we had Rodri instead of Yaya when Aguero, Tevez, Silva and Nasri were in their best form, we would have already one CL easily, but somehow even Napoli's and Ajax's and middle level CL teams were difficult for us to beat and mostly because, we weren't that solid in midfield. Not even mentioning matches against Barcelona and Bayern and Real Madrid, where we depended on counter attacks and had possesion like 25-39%..

Yaya had his best season in 13/14, when he was 30 years old and looking at Rodri's progress now, I don't think it's impossible for him to start scoring that kind of goals. Could you even imagine 3-4 years ago, that he would receive ball from KDB, dribble between lines for 4-5 seconds, then make those "Ronaldo / Zidane" movements with the ball and shoot ? :D

If he continues to progress and eventually becomes player who scores 10+ and assists 10+ goals per season and in addition to that continues to be the player he is as defensive midfielder, I think he will be the most complete football player I have ever watched in my entire life. Player who defends, controls midfield and scores / assists - what you can wish for more..

When you look at Rodri’s yellow and the next two Newcastle fouls that were exactly the same, but didn’t get punished, it only fuels the “agenda” narrative.

That said, he’s simply got to stop it! If it means another player has to take a yellow, so be it!

Pep HATES giving away Fred kicks on the edge of the box, which means taking the foul by about the 30 yard mark, but if it means keeping Rodri on the field, then either take the foul closer to the goal or make someone else take the foul!!

It’s one rule for Rodri and one rule for every other midfielder in the League!
